Chapter Seven - Healing In The Hospital

The wind whipped around her as she ran through the dimly lit street. She breathed in deeply and breathed out slowly trying to control her breathing. Everything around her was spinning, her head throbbed, and on top of all that her heart felt like it was about to pound out of her chest. Thoughts and images swirled around her as she tried to imagine of where she was. Glass was all over the ground and a red car was laying upside down, all of its windows shattered, a car door was open and blood was all over the ground.

"M-mom?" a voice came from behind her, "D-dad?" Alex wearily turned around, there was a girl standing there, blood was all over the girl's leg, and it was slightly bent to the side. Her face turned from curiosity to horror, it was herself. The same long brown hair and gray-blue eyes.

Suddenly light filled her eyes and she sat up in a bouncy bed, pain shot through her ribs, she was hyperventilating, sweat trickled down her forehead and her heart was pounding. There was a constant beeping noise behind her, and people talking in front of her.

"Hey, hey, hey..." a familiar voice came from behind her, it was Dan, "Alex, are you okay?" he said placing a hand on her shoulder, she flinched back and turned over to him, his eyes were clouded with worry, and he had dark circles under his eyes.

Just then her dad walked in with the nurse beside him, her dad rushing to her side. "Hey baby are you okay?" her dad asked she winced and turned over to her dad, her eyes filled with fear.

The nurse chirped in, "She has gone through, lots of shock, it will be traumatizing for her the next few weeks. She has four broken ribs, her wrist is horribly broken, and she has a concussion." she finished and looked up from her clipboard, "One more week here will be fine."

Dan stood up and looked over at the nurse, "Will she be okay?" he asked anxiously. The nurse calmly looked over at Dan.

"She will be fine as long as she stays here one last week, her stitches should be healed by then." Dan nodded angrily. He looked like he could kill everybody in the room.

Everything was a blur, she couldn't understand what else the nurse or Dan or her father were saying. Before she knew it her dad started talking, "Baby, I have to go to work, but you don't have to go to school for another few weeks." her father told her and kissed her check, before walking away. She truly didn't want him to go, but she knew that he needed to pay the apartment bills and now he had the hospital bill.

She laid back down in her bed and Dan was still sitting beside her. Images came flying back to her, of Jack, and of Dan, fighting for her. She wanted to talk to him she really did, but she couldn't. She couldn't bring herself to even make a sound. She turned her face over to him, he was sleeping, his head leaned back. He had probably been up all night with her.

She didn't smile, nor did she say anything to him when he twitched in his sleep, she just looked away again and thought about what will happen when she goes back to school.

Alex woke up to the nurse undoing the wires all over her, shutting the monitor off and urging her to get up. When she finally got up to her feet and Dan was immediately by her side and held onto her guiding her towards the exit, her father following on her other side looking at the bills. She had hated not talking to Dan, with all her heart, she just wanted to kiss him and hug him. But she didn't.

Once they got to they counter, her father paid the money and they finally left. Her father opened his car door for her and she slowly got in behind the drivers seat, Dan sat next to her, holding her healed hand careful, not to hurt her.

Once they got to the apartment, it was down pouring, Dan held his jacket over her as she walked slowly in pain to her house. Once they got to the safety of the apartment Dan put the jacket back on, even though it was soaking wet. Then helped her up into the lift then into her room. Dan left her alone to go talk to her dad she guessed. Once she was laid down she immediately grabbed her phone and stared at all the texts from Hope

Hope: Your dad told me what happened, I hope you get better soon! Love you!

She didn't text back, she just left it and covered her face with her hands and sighed. A bang of thunder, made her scream and she jumped.

She HATED thunderstorms. She loved rain in general just not with thunder or lightning. Dan was immediately there by her side, "Whats wrong?" Dan said a worried look on his face.

Alex looked up at him, "D-..." she tried to say, "D-Dan..." she finally whispered.

"Hey... it's okay I'm here." Dan whispered and wrapped his arms around her crawling onto her bed, his arms wrapped around her made her feel at home. Another loud bang of lightning, she jumped.

"Shh.. It's okay." Dan cooed and brushed some hair away from her face, she breathed in his scent and she slowly fell asleep in Dan's grasp.

Alex woke up to Dan's steady breathing, he was still asleep. She took a deep breath and lifted up her arm before flinched away in pain, "Ah.. Ow.." she said more loudly than she wanted too.

Dan woke up with a start, "Alex, are you okay?" Dan asked and let his arms drop down, they slid down her back as he looked her up and down. She nodded slowly, "I-I-I... I need to take a s-shower." she whispered and slowly got up cringing in pain, she got into the shower cringing in pain as the hot water hit her scars.

Once she got out of the shower, she hated what she saw in the mirror, scars were all over her body, her wrist was swollen and bent, and her ribs are bruised and smashed in. She wrapped a towel around her and sighed, then slipped on some soft shorts and a black tank top.

She walked out and into the kitchen to find her father and Dan were talking at the counter, when she came out, Dan looked up and smiled his crooked smile and her father smiled, "Good morning Alex." he said, she just grunted a "Morning." before sitting on the couch and blankly staring at the t.v.

"Your dad and I have been talking, and your father has to go on a business trip for the weekend, and he invited you to stay at my place for the weekend." Her heart exploded. Of course she wanted to stay alone with Dan for the whole weekend! But she just smiled a little and nodded "O-Okay." she said.

"But you do have to go back to school the Monday after that." her father reminded her. She nodded blankly. She didn't want to, but if her mum were here she would want her too. She just nodded, staring out into space blankly.
