Did they tell you that you
would be God's instrument,
that the work you undertook
was the epi-height of heroism
and that those irreverent
and blasphemous doubters
well-deserved their punishment
while your glorious execution
of God-like retribution
was sanctioned by a holy book
and as such, all impending sins
hindering eternal bliss would dissipate
and in their place, a fine afterlife –
what better compensation?

Did you not find it convenient
that those enamoured of holy death,
did not choose to embrace
that belief as their own blessed fate,
did they argue shrewd and vehement
their necessity to recruitment,
that someone was sadly obligated
to enjoy the fruits of terrorism
and that a certain few were needed
to father next suicidal generation
while your own seed was superfluous
and your most necessary blood shedding –
proliferation... enough.
