The place was crowded but Louis didn't mind and Sivoné never cared if he didn't mind. All that mattered was Louis' happiness.Paul looked at his 'sister' with sympathy. Her love for her son was understandable and she didn't necessarily need a man in her life to raise Louis but he did need some testosterone in his life and he wasn't going to get that from Paul. Definitely not.
The delicate chime of the eatery derailed his train of thought. He looked at the door out of habit and his mood suddenly sky-rocketed. Wasn't that Sivoné's unofficial prince charming? What was he doing here? In this eatery of all eateries, at this time of all times. Paul was really starting to like fate.
Sivoné was not. It had been years since she noticed a man's presence but for some reason, James seemed to awaken some sort of inner female she buried the moment Louis' father left the picture. She needed to avoid him but how? It's not like the universe was doing anything to help the situation. It was only making matters worse.
"Sivoné?" James asked with surprise laced in his voice. He was a very good actor, so good he almost believed himself.
"James. I thought that you'd still be at work." She asked in confusion.
"Actually, my shift was over so I decided to grab a bite to eat here." He lied, his shift was over before Louis started crying but he chose to stay because he knew it was Sivoné's child.
She didn't bother masking the look of surprise on her face. She was about to speak until she heard her number being called. She excused herself, went to the counter then to her booth where Paul and Louis awaited her. She planned on the booth staying only for three but Paul had another thing planned for them.
"James! Why don't you join us?" Paul all but laughed when he saw Sivoné's expression as he asked for James' company. She looked she wanted to murder him with her eyes that mimicked the cold.
"You don't have to. We understand if you are busy." Sivoné, not so subtly, tells him to go but James wasn't ready to take no for an answer. He needed to make his presence known to her.
"Actually, I'm free right now." He says grinning at the group. Paul looked at him with excitement. He was interested in her so this was going to be fun.
He sat beside Louis, watching the young boy eat with vigour. He looked at Paul then at Sivoné and concluded that Paul was definitely a prominent figure in Sivoné's life. How unnerving.
"So James, how did you, a handsome man like yourself, end up in Cali?" Paul asked leaning towards him with interest.
"Well, I got into UCLA and decided to say in California." James said simply. He wasn't all that interesting but he hoped he was enough for Sivoné.
"So where are you from?" asked Paul, unfazed by James simplicity.
"Um, Florida. Orlando, Florida." He said grinning, he never seemed to stop smiling whenever he was near this somewhat awkward family.
"Wow, that far away. Why?" Paul asks suddenly interested in this new revelation. Was he running from something because that would change this entire situation entirely.
" I guess you could say that I was tired of the Florida scene." James says nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders.
All this time, Sivoné was on her cell, having a conversation with the man that ruined her life temporarily. Christopher. She was at the other side of McDonald's speaking harshly.
"What do you want, Chris?" She asked in spite. He needed to stop infiltrating her happiness.
"Can't a man call to check up on his ex-mistress? " He asks with amusement in his voice. He was enjoying this, tormenting her.
" I was never your mistress. The only thing connecting the two of us is the fact that we have a son together and that's it. You need to stop calling me. I already told you not to worry about Louis anyway. You said you didn't need baggage and a kid so you cut me off and I was happy. It was mutual so why are you trying to come back into my life?" She asks barely keeping her anger contained. He needed to stop this.
"I just wanted to know if you guys were alright. Is that a crime?" He asks slightly offended that she wanted nothing to do with him.
"Actually, I'd prefer it if you didn't call me again. Unless you'd prefer it if I decided to make you calling me a crime." Chris was getting agitated. How dare she talk to him like that!
"Calm down Siv. I don't want any trouble." He says trying to appease her.
"How are Michelle and your three kids? You know, the family that you never told me about as we had a relationship for over a year, how are they? I suppose you haven't told them about Louis and I, have you?" She asks. She was greeted with silence.
"Don't call me again, Chris." She whispers into the phone and hangs up. She didn't need drama. Not now.
Paul and James seemed to have hit it off as friends very quickly and this budding friendship was exactly what James needed to have Sivoné in his life.
"So Siv and I were wondering if you wanted to come with to watch this movie that poor little Louis has been bothering up about? It's okay if you wouldn't to." Paul asked. Paul knew that James wouldn't refuse, he was too hooked on Siv. This made him smile mischievously.
" Sure, why not?"
