Tough Love (Xander + Spike)

I'm In Love With You

Xander was in his apartment's kitchen making some scrambled eggs when the phone started ringing. He turned the stove off, grabbed a plate from the cupboard, and put the scrambled eggs on it. Then he proceeded to jog to the phone and pick it up.

"Hello?" He answered with a sigh.

"Hey Xander!" The familiar voice spoke on the other line.

"Oh, hey, Willow. What's up?" The man asked while sitting down to eat his breakfast.

"I'm just checking in."

"Okay? Everything's fine, Will.." He said in a questioning tone of voice.

"Where were you last night?" She blurted out.

"I was with Spike." Xander responded, and immediately regretted it.

"With Spike? I thought you hated him." Willow asked, obviously very perplexed.

"No, of course I don't hate him."

"Hey, I gotta go. There's some weird diamond eating frost-demon thing I gotta research" She quickly changed the subject in order to escape the conversation.

"Diamond eating what-demon?" Xander asked while snickering.

"Yeah, I know it sounds stupid, but we'll never get anywhere without researching it. Wanna help?"

"No, I think I'm gonna stay in today. Good luck with the diamond eating thingymabob!" He ended the phone call with.

Xander hung up and put the phone on the dining room table. He finished up eating his breakfast and then put the plate in the sink.

He decided that it would be a good idea to check on Spike after what happened the day before. The man grabbed his brown leather jacked and left his apartment.

Spike sat alone on his couch and watched some romantic movie on the television.

He was thinking about Xander and how much he'd like to kiss him, but that would never happen at this pace. His attention was drawn to the door as he heard a knock on it.

"Someone's actually knocking? Must be the first bloody time that has ever happened.." Spike said to himself as he got up and scurried to the door. 

He opened the door and saw that gorgeous face, sculpted by angels.

"Hey." Xander spoke softly.

"Hello, come to pump 'info-boy' for some info?" The blond man joked with a smile on his face.

"Hah.. No, this time I'm just here to see how you are."

"Well, come on in!" He stepped to the left and let Xander in.

Xander walked in as Spike closed the door behind him.

"So, you're here to see how I am?"

"Yeah, you seemed pretty upset yesterday." Xander

Spike sits down on the couch in front of the TV and Xander sits down beside him.

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that.." Spike responds with a sad tone.

"It's okay.."

"So, what's this movie about?" Xander asks to change the subject.

"Well, it's about a love triangle between two guys and a girl" Spike explains.

"So they're both crazy for the girl?" Xander asks curiously.

"Nope, that short guy and that girl are in love with the taller guy" Spike says while pointing at the TV.

"Interesting, so who does he pick?"

"You'll have to wait and see" spike responds with a half smile.

After approximately 30 minutes of the movie Xander looks at Spike.

"Hey, Spike?" Xander says trying to get his attention.

"Yeah?" Spike responds.

"I want to tell you something, 'cause I feel like I can trust you.."

"What's wrong?" Spike asks with concern.

"Nothing's wrong, It's just.."

"What?" Spike asks curiously.

"I'm.. gay"

Spike is shocked, but happy.

"I just feel like that's something you should be able to tell your best friend"

Suddenly that happiness turns into boiling anger.

"Get out..."

"Wha-" Xander gets cut off by Spike.

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!" Spike screams while quickly standing up.

Xander stands up right after him.

"Spike! Calm down! We don't need to go through this again!" Xander responds with concern.

"Just.. please get out.." Spike says trying to stay calm.

"Do you have a problem with me being gay, Spike?"

"No, of course not!"

"Then what is your problem? What is making you so mad?" Xander asks with concern.

"Don't you get it?! I don't wanna be your bloody best friend!"

"Why?! What did I do to not deserve your friendship!" Xander screams back at Spike.

"Don't you bloody get it, Xander?! I'm in love with you!"

Spike immediately regrets what he just said.

"Wait.. you're-" Xander gets cut off by Spike.

"Just leave.."

Xander slowly turns around and walks out the door.

As the door closes Spike sits down on the floor and starts crying.
