"Look, mom! Do you see that?" Casey yelled as she ran off towards whatever she was looking at.

"Casey, if you don't get your little behind back here!" I screamed after her as she ran off.

She didn't listen and continued to run making me have to chase her down.

Her long brown pigtails bounced up and down as she continued to run.

She chooses now when we're on the busiest street in New York to run off.

"Casey, stop." I pleaded from lack of oxygen.

You'd think she was on a track team with how fast she's running. I'm not as fast as I use to be.

"Mommy, it's so big!" Casey exclaimed, that was the last thing I heard before she let out a loud shriek.

I instantly jolted up from my bent over stance and ran as fast as I could to Casey.

Once I reached her I let out a sigh of relief when I seen her playing with a random man. I thought she was seriously hurt or something.

The man swung her around with his arms before setting her back down on the ground.

"Come here." I demanded pointing beside me and giving Casey my meanest face.

"Mom, look at the sign." She said pointing at a huge billboard.

I looked up to see the billboard with cartoons on it and a little saying, something Casey wouldn't understand at her young age of six.

"I don't care, come here!" I demanded again raising my voice.

"Yes ma'am." She replied back sulking a little before coming over to me.

I grabbed onto her shoulders. "What did I tell you about running off?" I asked her.

"I'm sorry mommy. The sign's so cool." She responded back making my face soften a little.

"Just don't do that again." I told her.

She nodded her head in understanding.

The man cleared his throat making me look up at him.

The first thing I noticed were his lips because his hat hid his eyes. His pink plump lips look so damn soft and his jawline is literally perfection. He has facial hair in all the right places and he's very handsome if I must say so myself.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that she was gonna bump into someone." I apologized to him while nervously tucking some hair behind my ear.

"It's alright, just keep a close eye on your little one here. We wouldn't want something to happen to such a beautiful angel now would we?" He asked looking down at her before returning his eyes to mine.

I nodded my head in agreement.

"Of course." I replied back.

He gave me a charming smile, a brief nod, and then he walked away.

I can't help but to feel like I'm gonna see him again and soon.

"Finally, you're here and what is she doing here with you?" My boss asked me once I walked into the shop with Casey holding my hand.

The only way I can keep her with me is if I hold her hand or pick her up. She's getting too heavy for me so I have to hold her hand from now on.

"I'm sorry I'm late but my mom couldn't watch her today and I had to go pick her up." I told my boss, Cataina, before going over to the couch and making Casey sit on it.

For four years I've been working at this hair salon and luckily I've been making ends meet. Cataina gets on me all the time about bringing Casey to the shop because this has happened more than once. Since Casey was two I've been taking care of her by myself due to her father being in prison for some drug charges. The single parenting life has not been easy but I've been doing a great job at providing for Casey and making sure she has everything she needs.

"Whatever, you have a client to tend to." She stated waving me off.

I rolled my eyes before going to check by the front door for my first customer. I leaned out so I could see who was waiting for me and instantly smiled.

"Girl, as soon as I left your shop the other day my hair has been in shambles." Stacy greeted me with a hug.

I laughed a little bit. "Your hair is always in shambles, sometimes I wonder what you would do without me." I replied back to her making her laugh.

"I wonder the same thing all the time." She joked coming into the hair station.

"Take a seat and tell me what you want done to your hair." I told her patting the back of my chair.

She nodded and took a seat.
