Not in that Way

By Sam Smith
And I hate to say I love you
When it's so hard for me
And I hate to say I want you
When you make it so clear
You don't want me

I'd never ask you 'cause deep down I'm certain I know what you'd say
You'd say, "I'm sorry, believe me, I love you but not in that way."

And I hate to say I need you
I'm so reliant
I'm so dependent
I'm such a fool

When you're not there,
I find myself singing the blues.
Can't bear,
Can't face the truth

You will never know that feeling
You will never see through these eyes

I'd never ask you 'cause deep down I'm certain I know what you'd say
You'd say, "I'm sorry, believe me, I love you but not in that way."

You'd say, "I'm sorry, believe me, I love you but not in that way."

I listen to the song on repeat.
"One more time," I tell myself, "one more time"
I replayed the song once more
The depth of my heart sank to its lowest summit as the first few words began.
"And I haaaaaaaate....." A tear casted down my steaming red face already stinging from the previous tear.
When the chorus comes there's nothing I can do but sob as hard as humanly possible.
" You say, I'm sorry, believe me, I love you, but not in that way."
I mouthed the words with my trembling lips and curled up into a ball wiping my tears on pillow.  I slowly breath in and out hiccuping in between breaths.
I've never experienced so much pain in my life. Every time I would get a positive thought he came back into my mind and brought me back down.    I can't tell him that I like him or it will ruin all 15 years of our friendship together.  I have to keep it a secret but I don't know how long I can last keeping any secret from him.
HE is my best friend. His name is Laik (lake)  Vakra.
