It was a normal Thursday morning, as ordinary as the next. Amanda washed her straight, black hair and was just about ready for school. Her hair was one thing people always praised her about, not to mention she was also very pretty.
However, whenever compliments came her way, Amanda always tried her best to die them down. She couldn't possibly have people talking about her, and tried staying as passive as possible. She didn't want to focus on things that could make her life even more complicated than it already was, so she stayed as meek as she could. Although, there was this one guy she actually had feelings for, Adrian. He was just great. He wasn't like the others who fancied her, but he was kind-hearted, funny, and even liked the same things she did. But no way could she think of opening up to him...it was too risky. She had to stay focused on what she really wanted.
You might think of Amanda as a lonely girl who gets good grades, wasn't bad at sports and was liked by everyone.
Jessica's birthday was 2 days away and she even lived in the same community as her. Both of them had huge, amazing homes, but the difference was that Jessica always bragged about hers. Since Amanda was her 'best friend', it made it ideal to come to her birthday party.
"You'll be there right? Thanks!" Jessica said as she shoved the invitation into Amanda's hands even before she could say anything. Amanda, highly anxious about it, called Jessica when she got home. "Jessie, I know it's your birthday and all, but I don't think it's a good idea if I come...I haven't been to many in the past, and I really don't think I should-""Which is why I'm gonna make it awesome! Hey, and guess who's coming?? Adrian! I promise you'll have a blast, see ya!" Jessica said as she hung up the phone. This didn't make Amanda feel any better but maybe she did have to loosen up a little...What's the worst that could happen anyways? She picked out her dress for the party and was ready to finally have some fun.

When it was finally Saturday, Amanda couldn't help but feel a little excited. Although, the guilt was eating her away like crazy, she tried her best to not worry about it too much. Jessica came to her house half an hour before the party started just to make sure she was coming. As they got outside, Amanda turned back. "Maybe this isn't such a good idea" she said to no one in particular.
Not ten minutes after they reached Jessica's house, people started filing in. What Amanda didn't know about Jessica Simpson's parties, was that everyone who's anyone was invited. There were the twins from down the lane, 3 kids from her old school, 4 girls from the spa and even 3 of her hairdressers. And of course, her mother had invited everyone from her cooking class as well. (Thanks, mom!) This many people somehow always made Amanda uncomfortable. She wished the party would end fast so she could go home, where it was safer...
People were always so perplexed when they saw the security Amanda's house was given. Jessica was the only one whom she told the security it was fine to let in, and now she was doubting whether she should do that either. Just then, she felt a hand on her shoulder...
