The date is July 19th, 3025 and today is the day that the government is changing the rules on renting a personality. They have decided to raise the maximum time limit that you can rent a personality from a month to a year. Unfortunately, the world isn't free, neither are personalities. Depending on the personality you want, the cost can be anywhere from ten silver coins to fifty-million gold bars.

Personality changes are possible because of the research done by Dr. Johnson. He developed a way to change people's personalities twenty years ago. This was developed because people began to complain to the government about wanting their personality changed. This uproar from the citizens caused a law to be passed that allowed anyone over the age of eighteen to be able to rent a personality for a month.

However, there have been cases where people rent personalities for those under the age of eighteen. Most of these cases end with the child under eighteen falling into a coma until they turn eighteen due to the fact that their bodies weren't able to withstand the personality change. Even though people could rent for a year that would just increase the existing prices so that merchants don't lose money and the price now is so high that only those in the upper class can't even afford the cheap personalities.

One of the cases of an underaged person trying to change their personality and falling to a coma till the age eighteen was a seventeen year old girl named Alice Irwin. Alice came from a broken family, where the father was always away on another planet working for a mining company, and the mother was always ignoring Alice and fighting with her boyfriend. Because her family was broken and poor Alice had a shy and depressed personality which because of it she never met a lot of people and never really made friends.

One friend she had during her childhood was a boy named Michael. Michael knew about her family and her problems. After constantly begging Michael to buy her a new personality he gave in and bought her one, after she changed her personality, Alice immediately fell into a coma and Michael was arrested after bringing her to the hospital.

He wasn't aware that renting a personality for someone underaged is a federal offence and is punishable by five years in prison. Alice awoke from the coma exactly one year after being admitted into the hospital. She left the hospital a month after waking up to live life with her new personality.
