Thor and Loki arrived at Asgard once again. After the fiasco in New York, Thor was tired and in a bad mood. The tesseract, encased in a glass container, was firmly in his right hand and Loki was walking, with a slight limp, on his left.  Loki was completely oblivious to his mood as he walked the familiar rainbow bridge with a smug look on his face even though he was wearing the metal gag. Thor growled in frustration at Loki’s expression. How could he be so smug when he had just killed thousands of innocent people? Growling again Thor grabbed Loki’s right bicep, a twig compared to his huge muscles. Loki flinched as Thor’s grab shot pain through his upper arm. The pair lifted into the air, powered by Mjölnir, and flew towards the Asgardian palace.

Upon reaching the palace Loki was passed from Thor, to two heavily armed guards. Together they hauled the young prince to a main hall. Loki remembered the hall well. This was where his mischief had begun, back when he had sneaked in some frost giants to ruin Thor’s ceremony. But this time the hall felt different. There was no crowds to greet his return, no lines of guards leading up to the golden steps like at Thor’s ceremony. It was eerie and uninviting. Loki noticed Thor sitting in the throne where Odin had once ruled. Alongside Thor were his pathetic friends; Sif and the Warriors Three. The two guards holding on to Loki suddenly dropped him to the floor. Wincing slightly he began to pick himself up again when he felt a tremendous force pushing him back down. Loki’s breathing began to shorten as he felt the anger rise inside him. He was not used to being pushed around and he didn’t like it. One of the guards shouted angrily at him from above

“You will not rise before the king until told to do so!” he bellowed. Loki stopped for less than a second in shock at hearing the word ‘king’ and knowing that it was meant for Thor and not him. He looked up at Thor from where he knelt. Thor’s expression had not changed; his eyebrows were furrowed into a concerned frown and his fingers gently tapped the arms of the throne. After a moment or two, he eventually spoke,

“Rise.” He said simply, no emotion showing on his face. Loki waited for a moment as he was quite sore from the invasion in New York on Midgard. He soon realised it was too long however when he felt his body being hauled up roughly by one of the guards. Thor looked Loki up and down, trying to see anything that resembled the man he had spent his childhood with. Instead he saw a broken ghost. Loki’s eyes, once so bright and full of mischief, were now dulled and full of hatred, mistrust and fear. Scars, both physical and mental, aged his pale face. The man in front of Thor was a stranger, and it broke his heart.

“Remove the gag.” Thor instructed. The guards responded immediately and swiftly removed the gag that was over Loki’s mouth. “And then you can go back to your posts. My friends, please” Thor turned to address Sif and the Warriors Three “if you too, wouldn’t mind leaving. I wish to speak to my brother alone.” He said quietly. His friends bowed respectively before exiting the room. Loki watched them leave before returning his attention back to Thor.

“I’m not your brother Thor.” He corrected. The young king began pacing up and down before Loki. Loki raised his eyebrows in slight amusement. He could tell that Thor was puzzled. He had never had to deal with this kind of situation before. At last, Thor finally stopped pacing and faced Loki.

“What happened to you Loki?” He spoke slowly, regretfully. Loki smiled micheviously,

“I don’t know what you mean.” He said innocently. Thor rolled his eyes in irritation,

“Why did you leave Asgard? You could have stayed.” He said simply. Loki gave a small laugh,

“I fancied a change of scenery.” he joked. Thor growled.

“I mean why did you do it? Why did you kill those people on Midgard? Why did you betray us and form an alliance with the Chitauri?” Thor asked sadly. Loki was still smiling, enjoying this little game,
