Before anyone could come after me, to make me go back to gym, or the principal's office, I was gone. I had already gotten into my car and started the ignition. The engine roared to life, and the car vibrated beneath me. This little fact always took my mind off of things. The roar of the engine always made me feel safe, and at home. My grandmother had always found it fascinating, and didn't let that stop her teasing me.
I had started down the street going towards Katie's daycare. Today was one of my days off from the restaurant, and Katie loved those days. I would pick her up from daycare earlier than usual, and I would spend more time with her. I would always just cherish the time I had with her, because if I die tomorrow I would always have today. Basically you have got to live like you were dieing, and spend time with the ones you love the most, and that was Katie.
I had gotten to the daycare, and my knuckles were red and in pain, but it was normal when you just punched someone in the face. The thought of that had brought a smile to my face. William deserved it no matter what anyone thinks. If he thinks that he could prance into my life, and have me open to him like his personal book, he was wrong. I was raised to be stronger then that. Raised to believe that no man should be allowed to overpower me, and take advantage of me.
I slammed my door shut and walked to the daycare, and upon opening the door the bell goes off. I walked right into the lobby, and saw Mrs. Harrison at the front desk. She ran the place with a few teens who volunteer. Mrs. Harrison was at least 55 years-old, but doesn't look a day over 40. She picked her head up so her blue eyes could meet my grey ones.
"Oh. Honey! I didn't get Katie for you, yet. I have been really busy these few days. I am so sorry." Mrs. Harrison tells me.
"It's fine Mrs. Harrison. I'll go get her. If that makes your life easier." I said with a smile on my face. No matter what she always made me smile.
"That would be so helpful dear," She said with a look of happiness and relief in her eyes, and carried on, "and dear. Didn't I tell you to call me Margaret?" She said with a playful look in her eyes.
"Yes, you did Margaret. I'll go get Katie." I said walking away.
I walked right by her desk and she gave me a thankful smile, which I gave back. The daycare was small, but nice in a way that made you feel safe. Katie loves it here almost as much as our house.
"Se!" I heard a loud voice, a giggle, and then footsteps.
Then, Katie jumped on me. I knew it was Katie when she said my name. She said Se, which is short for Secret. Isn't that a wierd name, but in a sense it fits me. I have this secret way of being sneaky, and it always got me into trouble.
"Hey Katie." I said as I ruffed her hair. She looked up at me with a pout.
t on her lips while she fixed her hair. I laughed at her, and she returned the smile after she managed to fix her hair.
"Go get your stuff, we have to get going." I said and she bolted to the backroom. The keep all the kids' belongings in there, and make sure no one will mess with them.I sighed and ran a hand through my honey brown hair.
"Let's go Se!" Katie yelled, and pulled my hand as we started to walk to the car. I opened the door for her and pushed the seat up for her to get in the bach. She climbed in and right into her car seat. I got in the drivers side and started the the car, and drove away.

"Katie! Foods ready." I called into the living room where she was watching t.v., and she came buzzing in.
"I made your favorite. Spagetti and meatballs." I said putting a plate in front of her.
"Yay! Thank you Se. I love you!" Katie said.
"I love you, too. Now eat up." I kissed the top of her head.
Over dinner we talked about what happened today, and what she did at daycare. Katie told me that she had the best time, and she thinks it was the best day she could ever have. I kept getting sidetracked, and just blanking out staring at her. Katie looked just like my parents. She had my mothers big, brown eyes, my fathers smile, my mothers silky, gorgeous brown hair, and my fathers little nose. In a way she was a mess of both of them. Katie reminded every day that I had lost my parents, but she also remids me that I still have some pieces of them left.
"Se! Where's my toothbrush?" I got off the couch and walked upstairs into our bathroom to see Katie in the cupboard. I laughed at her and helped her out, and got her toothbrush behind the faucet.
"Thank you." Katie said looking up at me.
"Your welco-" I was cut off by th doorbell going off.
Bring..Brinng..Brinnng
"I will be right back, and when I come up I want you in your jammies and in your bed."She giggled and started to brush her teeth. I walked down stairs, and shut the t,v, off before I walked to the door. I looked through the peep hole and no one was there. This definetly made me heart pound, and my palms sweaty. I had seen a lot of movies where the unlucky girl opened the door.
I looked to my side to see an umbrella. So, I picked it up and slowy started to unlock the door. l had my umbrella ready by my side for any surpise welcomers outide the house. I opened the door slowly, becoming numb with horror and dread for what laid outside waiting to attack me.
When the door was wide enough to fit my head through to peek, that's what I did. i looked all around outside, but I could not see anyone. At this point my heart was pounding in my ears, and I couldn't hear anything at all. I was at the point that no one was there, and someone was playing a trick on me when I heard the noise. This noise made me jump when I heard it, because it came out of thin air.
Meow..Meow..Meow
I looked down with wild eyes to see a little kitten there. It was a fully black cat, and a skinny one at that. The kitty had a very skinny face, almost like it hadn't eaten in days. It looked up at me with its shockingly bright blue eyes. They held sadness and desperation, and it took everything for me to not want to sweep him in to my arms, at least I think it was a boy.
I held out my hand for the kitty to see, and threw the umbrella to the side. The kitten came close, sniffing my hand, and I took this to look under him, and most deffently he was a he. The cat was purring so loud basicallly begging me to bring him into the house and keep him forever.
"You're hungry aren't you?" I asked the cat. "I'll get you some food."
I picked him up and brought him into the kitchen and got out some meatballs. I put them on a paper plate and on the floor for him to eat. He lowered his head to eat them while his ears were pulled back in hesitation. I took this time to notice that he had a collar. I pulled the collar up so i could see the tag for a name, and there was one looking right at me.
Nathaniel.
"Alright, Nathaniel. I will let you sleep upstairs with me, and tommorow we will post pictures up around town for someone to find you." I said to him.
I cleaned up the mess from him eating, and then gave him some milk, that he guzzled down. He looked at me with a grateful look in his eyes, and it warmed my heart. I brought him right upstairs and laid him on my bed. While I looked for a shirt. I picked a extra large shirt and kicked my pants off, and got under the covers. The weird thing is when I took my shirt off it was like Nathaniel looked anywhere but me. I shook the thought off immediately, and snuggled under the covers. While nathaniel snuggled up against me and the last thing to cross my mind that night was,
who rang the doorbell?
