"ReeRee!"
I almost rolled my eyes at Connor and shut my locker, turning to look at him with my eyebrows raised. I had always hated that nickname and he knew that, but refused to listen. He was grinning at me, his SnapBack pulled low over his eyes, which we also both knew he'd get in trouble for. But, once again, he refused to listen. Or maybe it was that he had a problem with hearing. Who knew at this point?
"Yes, Connor?" I said, starting to walk down the hall to homeroom.
Our first day of school had been on Friday, the day of the party, and I'd spent the weekend mostly worrying about Ash O'Brien. I knew it wasn't really in my place to worry considering we weren't even friends, but I couldn't help it. When I found her, she looked so upset and sad, that it scared me. And when I had visited her Saturday afternoon she looked exhausted and maybe even a bit defeated. I visited her on Sunday too, but we didn't really talk or anything. We watched a movie together and then I had to leave for work.
"Where were you yesterday?" he asked with a slight pout, slinging his arm around my shoulders.
I wiggled away from him and answered, "Working, I told you that."
"You're always working though!" he exclaimed, as if he didn't already know this, as if it was a big deal. Which, I'm sure it wasn't, he probably had a date to entertain him.
I opened my mouth to tell him to stop being such a baby when a shadow was cast over my tiny frame. I looked up and almost yelped, seeing that it was 3/8 of the Primadonna's that were standing before. Brandee Scott, Calla Langdon, and Mia Cove didn't not look particular thrilled to be talking to me, but Brandee smiled coldly anyways.
Her icy blue eyes were staring me down with an intense sort of look in them that never failed to scare the crap out of me. I shifted foot to foot uncomfortably, waiting for one of them to say something to me.
Finally, Mia Cove announced in a bored tone of voice for everyone to hear, "Ash wants to see you."
"Oh um okay... When?" I asked, biting my lip, trying not to pee my pants like I had done Friday night.
Calla gave me a look that made me feel stupid though I knew I wasn't, I was actually very intelligent.
"Are you slow?" she snapped at me, probably rolling her eyes, though I couldn't quite tell with her over sized sunglasses on, shielding the upper half of her face. "She wants to see you now. So let's go."
I cleared my throat and tried to argue that it was almost time for class, but these three girls had apparently run out of patience. Brandee adjusted her white SnapBack then grapped my arm roughly and dragged me down the hall. Everyone stared at us, wide eyed, probably wondering what I had done to tick the girls off so bad. Mia rolled her hazel eyes then glared at them. As soon as they had all looked away, she whipped out her phone and started tapping at it, texting her new boy toy of the week.
"So uh how're you guys doing...?" I asked awkwardly, trying to pretend that Brandee's nails weren't digging into my arm and that her grip wasn't so tight my arm ached. Also there was the fact that Brandee was a good few inches taller (especially with heels on) than me so it felt like she was trying to yank my arm out of it's socket with how fast she was walking.
Brandee glanced at me, an amused look flickering in her eyes before she looked away, staring straight ahead. "My boyfriend dumped me."
My face fell. "Oh... I'm sorry."
Brandee laughed and it wasn't the normal ha-ha you're kinda funny laugh, it was the full on you're cracking me up oh god please stop it hurts laugh. I stared at her, confused as to why she was laughing. I looked over at Mia and Calla, silently asking why she was laughing so hard.
