The world classifies you as dead but my heart classifies you as immortal.
Blinding white lights.
Running...
A flashing red siren.
Nonstop...
Ducking behind a crate.
Where does this tunnel lead?
Silver doors.
There's a light at the end...
An explosion.
I can smell the forest...
Hanging bloody sacks.
So close...
Looking into the water of a river.
The nurse died...
One of her eyes is red and black.
Everyone is dead...
The river runs red.
Who are you?
A dark figure shadows in the flow.
Who are you?
The figure in the reflection leans into her ear.
YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE
Maya jerked awake gasping for air, sitting up and ignoring the pain in her ribs as she looked around frantically. She was still in the large closet room, but it was nearly pitch black. The blanket previously covering her was whipped away damp with cold sweat. She looked next to her for the familiar pegasus and saw the previously folded blanket laid out but empty. There was a glass of water set next to the mat and she picked it up and drank it greedily, her mouth desert dry.
I can't be alone right now... she thought and set the glass back down. I need someone for company, I need to talk to someone. She finally got up on protesting legs and limped over to the door. She tried turning the handle, which was hard because she had never used one before, and when it turned she fell forward through the frame. She groaned and pushed herself up, shaking her head lightly and opened her eyes only to be met with another pony.
Maya gasped slightly and shrunk back and the pony did the same. The pony looked startled and surprised. She had a long dark blue mane and matching tail, both ungroomed and knotted. Her fur was baby blue and she had large dark blue eyes. Maya looked her over and she did the same. Maya raised her hoof to the other pony and hesitated when it copied. Maya looked at her skeptically and the pony made a similar face.
What is this? she thought, her previous confusion turning towards anger. Who are you? Maya growled and went to reach for her. The other pony looked angry as well and also reached forward until Maya rammed her hoof into a cold hard surface. What... They tapped hooves a few times, getting slower and slower until Maya reeled back. This is my reflection...
She was just as described, a blue pony with a blue mane and blue eyes. She was bandaged in multiple places and had green and yellow bruises all along her body. Those should be purple, how have they healed so nicely? She looked herself over and over again and slowly raised a hoof to brush away some knotted mane that fell back into place and she felt her eyes grow wet. I'm not a wolf...
That's when she heard a yelp. She quickly turned toward it, ears swiveling, and saw Chocolate Eyes out on a balcony past a glass sliding door, fumbling with something in her hooves. Maya limped to the window and a metallic smell passed her muzzle.
Blood.
GET OUT
Suddenly she was overwhelmed with panic and fear and tapped the window swiftly. Chocolate Eyes pricked her ears and whipped around, her hoof in her mouth. Relief washed over Maya like a waterfall as she saw the thread and needle she had dropped. She just pricked herself... she thought relieved. How can I smell it from here though... And what is she doing anyway?
Chocolate Eyes gasped and stared at Maya in horror. Maya looked down at herself then back at her. What, what'd I do? She quickly slid open the glass door and bombarded Maya with worry.
"Are you okay? What are you doing out of bed!? You might reopen something!" Maya's mind buzzed as she continued scolding. She was amused at first but then remembered why exactly she went to the trouble of getting here. When Chocolate Eyes stopped to take a breath she took the opportunity to speak.
"Nightmare..." she whispered, her voice hoarse. Chocolate Eyes's eyes widened slightly and Maya let part of her mane fall into her face as she looked up for comfort. Chocolate Eyes turned around and picked something up off the balcony and put it on a table next to them, then tugged Maya into the large closet room.
"Yeah I get those sometimes..." She helped Maya lay down then laid down next to her on her own mat, on her stomach, and shrugged her blanket over herself. "Wanna talk about it?" she asked. Maya remembered the confusing dream. The blood, the bodies, the lights, the voice-
YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE
GET OUT
She ducked her head under her blanket and Chocolate Eyes hummed. "Okay..." she heard a shuffle and peeked out to see the other mare laying her head down, her eyes closed.
"What's your real name?" Maya asked. Chocolate Eyes peeked at her through one eye and giggled.
"What have you been calling me?" she asked. Maya's face heated with embarrassment and thanked whoever was listening for it being dark. She wouldn't be caught on a truck full of caribou blushing.
"Chocolate Eyes..." said pony was silent for a few moments and then let out a bunch of giggles, trying and failing to stifle them when Maya pouted at her.
"Well you were close!" she said. She reached her hoof out as she settled down. "I'm White Hershey. It's more a title than a name but my friends call me Hersh or White." Maya hesitantly reached her own hoof out and they shook. Hershey yawned. "Okay, tomorrow we'll get you in a hot bath and talk more," she said. "I made you a present too!"
Maya retracted her hoof and glared suspiciously at her. "Why?" Hershey's face contorted into confusion.
"Why what?" she asked. Maya shied away a little from the pegasus. "Why are you helping me, and being so... kind?" she asked harshly. "I barely knew your name mere moments ago..."
Hershey just stared at her, presumably in thought, and Maya started fidgeting under her gaze. "Honestly..." she started and Maya pricked her ears unintentionally. Hershey closed her eyes stuffing her face in her pillow. "My friends asked me the same thing..." she said her words muffled and lazy in her pillow. "I don't know. I just feel like I should." Maya stared at her for a while, contemplating this, then snuggled in her own pillow and sighed into the softness.
"Goodnight Maya..." Hershey whispered, barely awake. Maya stared at her face for a few minutes until her breathing was soft and slow. She raised her baby blue hoof and stared at it and then at Hershey.
How did I get here mom?
