A/N

Here's the first chapter of The Good Future! Hope you enjoy it!! It's going to be a lot shorter than the other chapters because it's the introductory.

Disclaimer: I do not own this world or characters- besides the ones I create. They belong to the genius Marissa Meyer!

Kai's POV

"But I have to ask"- I hesitated- "if you think, someday, you might consider being an empress." I watched as she contemplated it without breaking eye contact.

"I would consider it," she said, the took a breath. "Someday." I grinned like a lunatic from relief and happiness. I daringly put an arm around her and watched her break into a smile. She then pulled a little bit away and I instantly missed her warmth. I watched intently as she held her old rusty cyborg foot over the water and let it go. It felt like some of our past had gone down with it and we could start fresh. When she turned back around, I couldn't help but marvel at her beauty. Even without the fancy dress and hairdo she had now, she was still breathtaking. Without thinking, I pulled her into a kiss. It was just as amazing as our other kisses but this one was different. It felt lighter, like the weight of the world had lifted off our shoulders. Like we could be young, careless, and free. Though we both knew that wasn't true. She was a queen and I was an emperor. I still hoped that someday she would become my empress.

After we pulled away, I sighed, "Someday." Cinder looked at me confused.

"What did you say?" She asked.

"Nothing!" I blurted a little too quickly. She just shook her head and laughed. Suddenly, an unusual expression crossed her face.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The oxygen filter in the maid's quarters broke. They want me to fix it."She said. I burst out laughing.

"They are asking the queen to fix it?" I said while giggling.

"Once a mechanic, always a mechanic. No matter what I am, I'll still always have a computer in my brain." She stated like an oath.

"Maybe for our get together at the ball, you could teach me how to fix an oxygen filter." I proposed. Though I hoped that I'd see her sooner than that.

"Anyone can fix an oxygen filter." She claimed, remembering our conversation on the rampion.

"Not everyone." I replied while pecking her lips. She giggled and stood up.

"Well.. I better get going. Ah. The regal life of a queen." She joked. "I'll see you in an hour or so."

"I love you." I said before I could change my mind. She looked thrown off guard before she replied, "I love you, too." And with that, she was gone.
