I woke up at 8:30, just like any other day, and went downstairs to grab some breakfast. I turned on the TV and switched to the news channel. An old man wearing a military uniform was standing at a podium announcing something. He looked worried and scared as he made his speech, but I wasn't listening. I was far too busy worrying about the files that I had misplaced the following evening, and whether or not my boss would notice. I had spent the rest of the morning turning the house upside down, trying to find them. It's funny now that I think about it, I was so worried about some pieces of paper when the world was about to end.
I eventually gave up and headed to work, I had ten minuets before my gift started and I had to get there fast. I drove as fast as I legally could. Eight minutes later i pulled up outside the hospital and got out of the car. I raced up the hospital steps and signed in before grabbing my uniform.
"You are needed in the operating theatre." The receptionist said, pointing half-hearted towards it.
I entered the theatre and nodded towards the nurse, preparing myself for the task ahead. Then, after a moments hesitation I grabbed my mop an got to work clearing the floor of all the blood and puke on the floor. An audience had been present and thrown up, causing the doctors to mess-up and cause their patient to die... Just another day as a hospital janitor I guess.
