Leila
"This is the life," I mumble to myself at the sight in front of me with pure satisfaction and happiness. All the sounds that surround me symbolize that I've reached my dream. A small and insignificant milestone for others but for me, it's all I could ever want.
With my thoughts, one would imagine that I'm an adventurer who has found a wonderful scenery. A mountain climber who successfully reached the top of Mount Everest. A rich woman who is currently surrounded by diamonds and jewels.
I chuckle to myself at those thoughts, close enough.
My silly thoughts were cut off at a cheery little voice calling out my name, "Teacher Leila!"
Yes, I'm a teacher and a kindergarten one at that. I'm happy, content, and I can't ask for anything more. Except maybe to have decent husband and have a joyous family, but I'll get there somehow.
A small girl, age no older than 5, squealed in joy as she ran to me as I open my arms wide. She has her hair up in two pig tails tied with a pink ribbon that bounced as she ran with an apparent frown on her face.
With a giggle she jumps into my arms and I lift her up, "What's the problem Lily?" I ask and she gives me an adorable pout.
"They broke my pink crayon, Teacher Leila!" Lily whines in my arms as she pointed at the twin boys whose eyes widen in panic as they drop the crayons in their hands in shock.
The twins stand up from their colorful plastic chairs, and defend themselves in unison. "We didn't mean it!"
I decide to act like I got angry. "Why did you do that boys? You know how much Lily loves her pink crayon."
I stop myself from breaking out into a giggle as I see their faces panic. "We promise we didn't mean it!" They say in unison, perfectly in sync with each other as they wave their hands in panic.
I gave them a small smile, and nod. Relief washes over their faces, knowing that I'm not gonna scold them. "Now what will you say to Lily?"
They eyed each other and sighed. "We're sowwy."
I turned to look at Lily, "Now what will you say?"
She looks hesitant at first, even crossing her arms and turning her head to the side in effect, but she soon gives in. "I forgive you."
The twins looked ecstatic and was about to run back to their table when I called out to them once more. "Kyle, Tyler, come here."
They reluctantly turned to face me, both looking nervous almost instantly.
"Lily might have forgiven you, but that doesn't mean you won't have punishment." They looked at each with a face that said 'uh-oh'. "For your punishment..." They hang on to my every words, eyes growing wider and wider each second as they hold each other's hands tightly.
"You should let Lily borrow your crayons too." With that, they sigh in relief and nod to me.
"Okay Teacher Leila!" The three of them cheered as I let Lily down for her to go and color with them.
I've always loved kids and what brings me joy the most is being their teacher. I smiled as I watched the kids playing around. Their little squeals of joy and the giggles all around the room can lift anyone of their everyday problems. Some of them draws with their friends, and the others play around as they pretend that the crayons are swords. I keep close watch to that group, knowing that it's a little bit dangerous.
