Chapter 1: Prologue
The ships where landing right onto our devastated planet. We hid behind broken buildings we once called home. I held my wife and son inside my arms telling them everything was going to be all right, when I knew it wasn’t. The smoke filled air rushed in my nose filling my lungs with despair. My people and I had dreaded the day this moment would come, but it finally did. The Liserexe’s army found our hide out planet…and now we were all doomed.
“Rilesa” I said to my wife, “We must hide our son where he is safe from the Liserexe army.” She aligned her eyes, where they glared at me with such terror. I could see straight into her mind as if her eyes where two open doors. The pain I could see through her shaking head killed me bit by bit. But what had to be done, had to be done quickly. I took our son from her hands as she whispered a slight “No.” The grief in her voice melted my soul. As I held our son in my arms I saw his delicate eyes open and he turned his expressionless face to an innocent smile. He was an angel. I knew my wife and I were not going to make it; we were the reason why the Liserexe army had hunted our people for years.
I was the ruler, the king. Rilesa was my wife, the queen. Our people had such great honor for us, and always fought for the prosperity of our planet. But this invasion was too much. This was more than overwhelming. We ran about the crashing bombs and fog filled air. The screeches of people blown to bits and the weeping of those who lost a loved one filled my ears with guilt. I, their leader, could do nothing to save them? But that didn’t matter anymore; I just need my son to live. When he becomes grown, he will fight in our name…in the name of our kind.
I finally found my most trusted servant. He was more than my right hand…he was like family. I called loud enough from a distance for him to hear me, “Dillard, is that you I see?” He rubbed his eyes as to make sure I wasn’t some sort of illusion he was seeing. He said, “King Richard, is that you, or have I lost sanity?” I put my son up to my shoulder and grabbed my wife tightly around her arm. “Come, dear Rilesa, you have to be strong,” I told her as we began to run towards Dillard.
“I can’t, I can’t do this Richard,” she cried as she held her hands over her mouth. A swarm of tears rushed down her pink cheeks. I could see how much she wished our son could stay with us. But that wasn’t going to happen. We were now about three inches away from Dillard. His eyes looking to the ground avoiding eye contact with us. I held my son up and leveled his face with mine. He chuckled and started sucking his thumb. “Oh son, you are to live a life we opposed so much for you to live. A life of questions, a life of war, but most of all a life of revenge” I told him as his eyes wondered off into our surroundings.
Rilesa put her pale small hand upon mine. I could feel her pulse, moving fast and pumping steadily. “Ronald,” she said to our son, “you must avenge your parent’s death, your people’ death.” She turned her look away to the breath taking scene. Bodies were thrown about the streets with no order what so ever. She continued, “Son, if you could see and understand what stands upon our eyes today, your tiny innocent heart would then be replaced with rage.”
With that I placed a gentle kiss on his beautiful silky forehead. Then, I turned my attention to Dillard. “Dillard”, I start, “You have been my most trusted worker for years, and I want to feel that same trust for you now and for years to come.” Dillard finally looked me in the eyes, with a bit of confusion, but still he remained all ears. I continued, “I need you to take my son to safety…take him with you.” He raised an eyebrow a bit flattered by my proposal. “Dillard, take Ronald to planet Earth.”
