A Brief History of Time Part 3

From Past to Present Day

The Potted history of the Galactic Federation and Earths' entry into it

The Federation as it's usually referred to has been around for a long time roughly 400 years in Earth measurements of time. Four Alien species were the founding members The Asgarii, Riorn, Descalik and the Montieri.

It began with an idea by the Asgarii to form a coalition out there among the stars they believed in peacefully cooperating on their world to achieve a task so they brought that mentality with them as entered the space. They took it to the only other races they knew who were space faring the Monteiri, Riorn and Descalik to be an official assistance pact between them.

It remained that way for more than thirty years before another species, The Moliax who had recently taken to space exploration requested to join.

They petitioned The Riorn first as they were they ones least interested in opening up their alliance to newcomers, The Descalik were most in favour of letting others in realizing that as more species became space faring and as they travelled further and met others who already had made the leap to become intergalactic travellers before them. Believed that they could use more allies.

The Monteiri and The Asgarii had the casting votes. Unfortunately they were split down the middle as well, The Asgarii voted in favour, The Monteiri against. With no tie breaker they opted to turn down The Moliaxs' petition to enter.

The Moliax weren't happy with the decision but abided by it and insisted they would one day reapply. The Asgarii and The Descalik weren't happy to have lost out even though it had been a tie, so they came up with a compromise that is to this day standard practice for any new race seeking entry into The Galactic Federation.

The applicant species must submit to a period of inspection to see if they have the potential to become members and if they reach the preset standard, followed by a period of upgrading to put in place anything they might need to help them fully qualify to become a protectorate, until they become self sufficient enough to become full fledged members of The Federation.

Getting seats on the various Federation councils, a Federation emissary living full time on their world and all the other benefits of being made a full member.

There's controversy surrounding Moliax eventual Federation membership and later expulsion, that holds to this day but I'll get to that.

That controversial period almost ended the chance for any other race to join and almost saw the dissolution of the Atarq, the Asgarii name given to their treaty, (coalition being the closest human translation) it permanently damaged the relations between the original members, leading to one of them voluntarily withdrawing, only returning as members, in Earth time roughly half a century later.

With that Race gone the three remaining members began actively seeking new species to join join and so over the course of the next three hundred years they expanded fifty-two species became members of the Galactic Federation as it had since become officially known as.

Earth was the fifty-third member to join becoming a Federation protectorate at first, under the Nahktazi who served as the administrators in seeing the planet and its people are ready to meet the guidelines for full membership.

At that time they were able to solve some of the problems holdovers from the various wars of Humanities past including making the areas such as what used to be known as the united states of America that were still uninhabitable, habitable again.

Their advanced medical technology was finally able to eradicate all forms of cancer and a few other diseases and ailments.

After the eight years of that Earth earned full membership status and the process began proper of absorbing Earth fleet into the Federation, the Fleet Academy teaches all the lessons needed to serve as part of the Federation in all areas whether that be working aboard a Starship, or space station or living and working as an emissary on an Alien world and every other way.

In the one hundred years since then Earth has become a valuable member, with members on every Federation council, serving alongside every other member species with little difficulty.

Over the next one hundred and fifty years Earth became a driving force in the Federation with only the Asgarii seen to be more influential and respected than humanity, they are seen as a force for good. (Although force is not the right word to describe either as it's not what Humans as a people or The Galactic Federation as an institution are about).

Peace is first and foremost the goal, not that there haven't been conflicts with non member worlds and even occasionally between members but a peaceful solution that suits all parties has always been found so The Galactic Federation in all its history has never gone to war.
