Chapter 19: Run Away With My Heart

Carlisle's POV

When I am  done putting the foot down with Elaine we walk back downstairs. Laurent was still sitting on the couch where we left him, I can  smell Edward and Bella.

They walk in followed by the others who walk straight to the garage.

Edward stops in his tracks when he sees  Laurent, he growls. I step in front of him.

"He came to help," I reassure  Edward. He looks at Laurent and nods.

"I am very intrigued with the life you have made here, but I won't be in a war with James, I think I will go check out that Coven you told me about in Alaska. " Laurent says to me.

I nod, understanding. Then he looks to Edward,

"Do not underestimate James, he has incredible senses, I've never seen anything like him in my 300 years."

Edward nods, and Laurent walks by and out the door.

Elaine tenses up next to me, for reasons I know not. She must be so stressed. I put a shoulder around her.

"We need to mask Bella's sent, maybe if she could switch clothes with someone here, then it would buy us some time," Edward explains,

Elaine holds up her hand.

"I'll do it, "

Edward nods, Elaine walks to Bella and holds out her hand,

they both go up the stairs.

Edward looks at me and sighs,

"Carlisle I don't know what is going to happen, but please, just make sure she's safe, no matter what." He says to me. I nod.

I would guard her with my life. Nothing would hurt my Elaine.

Elaine's POV

I walk up the stairs and to my office with Bella. We switch clothes. She took my jacket gratefully. Poor girl must be freezing.

"Elaine," She whispers, I look at her,

"Yes, sweetheart?" I ask, she shutters and then whispers,

"I'm scared, "

I frown, this poor girl didn't belong in this world. None of us did, we were all just stuck. I had to make sure she didn't get stuck like all of us.

"Don't be afraid, I'm not going to let anything happen to you." I whisper.

She looks at me with tears in her eyes, and nods.

I would have to keep this promise at all costs.

"I love you Elaine," Bella whispers. I smiled.

She reminds me of what I use to imagine my daughter would look like.

"I love you too, Bells, now lets go." I whisper.

We both walked down the stairs.

The plan was to run Bella south, only thing is we needed a couple volunteers. I raised my hand again,

Eddie laughs.

"Then you'll have to switch clothes again, Rose?" He asks looking at Rosalie, Rose sneer.

"Why should I? She is nothing to me." I look at Rose,

she sighs and nods.

"Fine, I'll do it," She whispers, We walk upstairs and do the same thing that Bella and I just did.

When we come back stairs. Carlisle is standing at the bottom of the stairs.

He pulls me in immediately.

"Letting you go with them, it will be physically painful for me," he whispers into my ear. I nod, he is talking about the mating bound.

I hug him tighter.

"What does it feel like? I mean what do you think it feels like?" I ask,

He shrugs,

"It will be easier in a sense, for Bella and Edward. Bella won't feel the physical effects because she is human, but she'll feel the emotional ones. Probably worst than we do. " He explains.

I nod,

I walked to the garage and he follows me.

I look to see Edward and Bella saying goodbye through the window.

Carlisle walks me to the car.

"I love you to the moon and back," I whisper.

He smiles and kisses you,

"And I love you to the sun and back,"

I laugh and roll my eyes, before getting into the car.

I turn to see that Edward and Bella are having a very emotional goodbye, I smile at them.

"I promise Edward, I'll get her back to you no matter what," I whisper to quiet for Bella to hear.

Edward looked sad,

"Please be careful, Elaine." he whispers back.

I nod, then look forward to give him and Bella so privacy.

When they're done we start to drive away.

The further I get from Carlisle, the more intense the fire in my chest gets.

By the time we are at the Washington border, I am clenching my teeth to keep me from screaming.

This was going to take some getting use to.

Carlisle's POV

Edward, Rose, Emmett, and me are all driving around looking for a good place to leave Bella's scent and track this James guy. I could rip him to shreds for what he did to my Elaine.

I wince as the pain in my chest gets worst and worst the farther I get from my precious Elaine.

"Carlisle, are you okay?" Edward asks from the passenger seat.
I smile,
"Yeah, son, it's just the mating bond is a lot more intense than I thought it would be.
"I'm sorry I have to put Elaine and you through this, it must be painful for you both."
He whispers.
I nod, but don't say much for the rest of the ride.
It's the first time in more than a hundred years that I have felt real intense pain, and I wasn't liking it.
I pull into the woods that we were going to run through,
"Carlisle?" Edward asked looking at me.
Rose and Emmett had already gotten out. I looked at him. He looked so much like her.
"Yeah son?"
I ask,
But I don't sound like myself. My voice sounds strain.
"Call her, she's probably experiencing the same pain you are,"
He says. I wince at the thought, knowing he is right.
He start to run after the other two.
I dial Elaine's number with trembling hands.
"Hello?" Asks a trembling voice,
"Baby?" I ask,
"Carlisle, my darling,"
She cries.
I could feel the pain in her voice,
"Hey, where are you?" I ask,
"We just landed in Phoenix."
No wonder it was so strong,
She was hundreds of miles away,
"Baby I miss you so much,"
I whisper into the phone.
"I miss you too, I feel like my chest is going to burn off,"
She says through gritting teeth.
I frown, wanting nothing more but to go to her, to ease her pain.
"I know baby, that's how I feel. It'll get better when we see each other again."
I hear her take a sharp intake of breathe.
"I know, it's just- it hurts, but I'm staying strong. I promise you, I'll be alright."
She reassures me. Not very well, she doesn't sound like she'll be alright. She sounds like the complete opposite.
"Please call me when you get to the hotel, love. I need to hear your voice again."
She breathes shakily.
"I will, I don't know if I will make it even that far. The hotel is on the other side of town, I already feel like I will die at any minute."
I nod, but then realize she can't see me.
"It's gonna be okay, I have to go but call me as soon as you get to the hotel."
I whisper into the phone.
"Okay, Carlisle, I love you so much,"
I smile,
"I love you too,"
Then I hang up,
and I feel the full impact of the burning again.
