"I'll catch up in a little bit, I think I forgot the keys," Lindsay told Gerard. They both knew she was actually going to buy Bandit a present for her birthday. They couldn't say that however, because Bandit was right next to them, and they didn't want to ruin the surprise for her.

Bandit was turning 10, but Gerard and Lindsay wouldn't let her stay home alone yet, so she had to come with them while they secretly bought her presents.

Gerard just noded, and Lindsay walked back into the store they had just left. Gerard took his daughter's small hand so she wouldn't get lost, and they kept walking.

After only a few minutes, they could hear people screaming and panicking. Gerard looked at Bandit, and then everyone else that was near by. They all just stood there in shock, as they realized the base of a tower had been bombed. The tall building began to fall, and Gerard remembered when a similar thing happened in 2001.

He started to relive the memory, it wasn't much different from what's happening now. People running, crying, screaming.

He heard Bandit begin to cry, and remembered that this isn't the same. He has a family now, a daughter that he needs to protect.

Gerard picks Bandit up and starts to run. Bandit doesn't cry, she's in shock. Instead she shuts her eyes tightly and wraps her tiny arms around her dad, her life depending on it.

The only thing Gerard can think of is keeping Bandit safe. He has to find Lindsay, so he starts heading towards the building that she entered earlier.

Something falls on him, and he's caught underneath part of what used to be the building. He tries to get back up, but he can't.

He's just glad Bandit wasn't hurt badly, she only had a few scratches. She's crying though, crying harder than she ever has. "Y-you h-have to find y-your mom," Gerard struggled to say.

Before, he would have had to yell so that she'd hear him, because of all the noise. Now, he's hardly talking, almost whispering. Bandit can still hear him though, hear what might be his famous last words.

Bandit cries even more, and shakes her head. She doesn't want to just leave her dad there when he could die at any moment. Gerard grabs her tiny, trembling hand, and places a small necklace in it. "F-for you're birthday" he says, with a small sad smile.

Bandit looks down at the necklace. It was a simple thin, silver chain, with a silver heart-shaped locket. It had a small pastel blue rose on the top right, and a small yellow mask on the top left. Carved into it she read, Small Petunia of the Galaxy on the front and For the Strong and the Brave on the back.

Bandit knees down to hug her dad one last time. "K-keep running," he tells her. Bandit nods and runs away, tears streaming down her face.

Gerard lies there crying, remembering all that had happened. He though about Bandit, Lindsay, and his younger brother Mikey. They were most important people in the world to him, and now he would never get to see them again.

Gerard can still see Bandit. He watches as Lindsay finds her, and picks up their small daughter. Tears stained Lindsay's face while Bandit's was still over flowing with them. He smiled his last, small, smile, glad that at least the two people he loved the most could be together. Then, everything went black.

"Where-" Lindsay wondered where her husband was, but stopped when she realized she couldn't see him anywhere. "Where did your dad go?" Lindsay whispered, afraid that she already knew the answer to her own question.

Bandit hugs her mom, and cries harder. "Dad's gone." She says it so quietly, Lindsay can hardly hear her say anything. Lindsay doesn't need to be able to hear Bandit say it to know why she's crying so hard.

Tears run down Lindsay's face. She had lost one of the people she cared most about. He was never coming home.
