The rain is pounding against the windshield of Liv's Trans Am as we speed down the highway.
"What the fuck was that?!" Liv screams, she's obviously shaken by the situation. "Who were those guys?!"
I take a deep breath, trying to calm down but I fail miserably. I turn around and look over my shoulder to see the highway blurred by the rain. However in the distance I can see the black BMW is still parked in Bellator territory with two figures standing beside it, one figure with a cell phone to his ear. I breathe a sigh of relief as I realize that they aren't coming after us.
"Remember that story I told you?" I ask, "The one where I was rejected by my mate?"
"Yeah." She replies, calming down a little, probably because she realized they weren't following us. "What does that have to do with anything?"
"I left some details out." I confess.
"What details?" Liv glances at me with wide eyes.
"Well the thing is that my mate is kind of the Alpha of the Bellator pack." I say. I watch as Liv's jaw drops, obviously not seeing it coming. "Those guys chasing after me were Alpha Devin and Beta Luke, my mate and his best friend."
"Holy shit!" She suddenly shouts. "Why were they chasing after you?"
"They heard about my misbehavior in the pack and were going to my house to straighten me out. My father called them. When I got home this morning my brother and dad were waiting for me and told me that I was to start behaving."
"Misbehavior?" Liv questions, sounding appalled, "You mean living your life? I don't see how what you're doing is wrong!"
I shrug, leaning my head against the headrest of the seat and I wipe a strand of wet hair out of my face. "The Bellator pack, they don't tolerate rogues. Some of the pack members somehow found out I have been hanging around you guys and they obviously have a problem with it. I think in the beginning they ignored it but if there is something they can't tolerated more than rogues is when a pack member turns their back on the pack. I think they mistook my frequent absence and lack of responsibility in the pack community as me turning my back on them."
"This is ridiculous!" Liv scoffs. "This is why I'm a rogue and never looked to be accepted by a pack! I couldn't handle being controlled like that, no offense."
"None taken." I say before we fall into silence.
I wonder why they didn't come after us. I'm relieved but at the same time my chest hurts. Was I not important enough to chase after? I mentally slap myself. Of course I'm unimportant to Devin; he rejected me. Why am I even hurt over it? I should be happy that I got away, I'm free.
"I wonder why they didn't chase after us." Liv thinks out loud, thinking the same thing as me. After a minute she contradicts herself. "Actually, why were they going after you in the first place? I mean yeah you're a pack member gone astray, but why should he care? He rejected you."
"Ouch Liv." I say, resisting the urge to shoot her a dirty look.
"I didn't mean it in a rude way." She defends herself, "Just why the hell can't he leave you alone? He obviously doesn't want you so why come after you and make a reappearance in your life? You're trying to move on."
"I don't think it has to do with me being his mate, Liv." I exclaim. "I think it's more of the fact that I'm causing a commotion in his pack. He's the alpha and has to make sure things are in order. The fact that I'm off breaking two of the main rules means that I'm disobeying him as an alpha. Seeing how he's one of the more powerful Alphas, he doesn't want any news getting out that one of his pack members fell out of line and abandoned his pack. He's strict and powerful. He doesn't want me to ruin his name." I rant. "That last part was an assumption but I'm pretty positive that it's true."
