"Father Says"

Michael Joseph Jackson

A true fighter. May he Rest in Peace at last.

August 29 1958 - June 25 2009.

Father says I’m going to be famous,

I’m going to be a star.

I’m going to look back one day

and thank him for getting me so far.

Nine others to compete with

I have to be the best.

Training every night and day;

“No! Not good enough!”

Shuffling back into line,

out comes the belt.

Slap!

It screeches, loud and clear

“Next time, I promise it will really hurt."

Father says I’m going to be famous,

I’m going to be a star.

I’m going to look back one day

and thank him for getting me so far.

Pressure is higher than anything at all.

“Do it like Michael does!” He says to them

“Do it! Or I’ll get you!”

I wish I could make it stop.

It’s all a living hell.

Beginning to vomit on his arrival,

The words hurt like sharp ice.

No freedom, no childhood.

“You have to be perfect.”

Age of ten, signed to Motown

Father, are you proud of me yet?

Never feeling good enough

I’m only doing my best.

Father says I’m going to be famous,

I’m going to be a star.

I’m going to look back one day

and thank him for getting me so far.

They say that it’s a natural gift,

They say it’s great for such an age

But why can’t Father see?

He’s pushing me further and further, and further.

The person who is performing is no longer me.
