I sat with my back pressed against the wall of Toshiro's room. Everyone had gathered together to talk about cooking techniques and what not. A small book lay on my lap, pictures of different spices printed on the pages. Yuuka sat next to me, not saying a word. Large red brimmed glasses balanced on her nose as she read about Udon.
My eyes danced around the room 'till they found Satoshi. His hair was a bit messy and his pink apron crinkled every time he shifted. His eyes swept from side to side as he continued to read the lines of the book he held in his hand. I couldn't read the title but I knew for sure that it was a cooking book.
My thoughts drifted off to the boy from a few hours ago."Etsuya Eizan" I mumbled unintentionally out loud. Everyone's head snapped up at my sudden mumble. Toshiro and Tomoko stopped their conversation abruptly, their mouths still open from the words they were forming.
"W-What?" Yuuka's head snapped up and her eyes stared deeply in mine. For a second I thought that I saw fear but as quickly as it appeared, it was gone. I raised my eyebrow slightly at the sudden silence in the room.
"Is something wrong?" Tomoko snapped out of her daze and leaped over to me, grabbing my shoulders in an iron grip before shaking me rapidly. "SOMETHING WRONG? YOU JUST SAID ETSUYA EIZAN!!!!" She yelled. I groaned in confusion and astonishment.
I hadn't even noticed everyone's tense figures after I said that name. The only one who was relaxing and humming was Satoshi which made me question his common sense.
"What is so wrong with that guy?" I asked, putting a hand on my head to get rid of the dizziness. Tomoko let go of my shoulders and plopped down criss cross apple-sauce. "Etsuya is a man in the shadows. He let his subordinates do all his dirty work and I heard he took over thousands of restaurants." Tomoko waved her hands infront of my face to appear scary. "Besides. He's goddamn rich"
I squinted my eyes and rubbed my jaw. "So he's dangerous?" Tomoko nodded furiously. I sighed in defeat and slumped down. I just had to meet some troublesome guy, no? I thought I could just finish this school easily and go on with life. It seems life has different plans for me. Yay.
"H-He's not just dangerous" Yuuka spoke up, her voice trembling slightly. Her knees were pulled to her chest with her arms wrapped around them. Her red hair lay around her like curtain and her sparkly eyes stared at nothing, as if she was in a trance.
"My family runs a restaurant in Kanto. We had a rivalry going on with a restaurant across the street. It went on and on for years until they suddenly disappeared. A couple of days later the building was broken down and replaced by a Karaage shop. At first my family and I were confused. How could our rivals suddenly disappear like that?" She took a deep breath and clenched her hands. Her knuckles turning white from the pressure. "It wasn't untill weeks later that we found out what happened. The Etsuya family had crushed our rivals and they were forced to leave when the Etsuya family paid the district owner much more money than our rivals paid." A single tear trailed down her cheek and dripped on the white fabric of her pants. "We've never heard a single thing about our rivals. There were only rumors going around. People said that...P-People s-s-said that..." More tears streamed down her face onto her pants. By instinct I placed her on my lap and wrapped my arms around her like a mother would do to a child.
Yuuka took another shaky breath before continuing. "People s-said that... they lost their fighting spir-" She hiccuped. "-rit." I ran my hands through her silky hair, her shoulders slumping as she calmed down. "Ya know. My mom always did that when I was upset" A sad smile played on her lips. "I miss her"
I smiled down at her petit form. "And I'm sure she misses you too" Our sweet moment was disturbed when a fuming Tomoko clapped her hands, an irk mark throbbing on her forehead. "Yeah this was cute and all and as much as I want to fuzz over you, it's not the time." Her blue eyes went a tint darker and I felt Yuuka shiver against my body.
"You said Etsuya Eizan but for what reason?" Tomoko clapped her hands together and gave me an interrogating look.
"Oh, he challenged me to a Shokugeki... or whatever that is." I clarified. Tomoko got struck by lightning, her form crumbling to the ground like a burnt leaf. The shock on her face made me chuckle softly.
"Etsuya challenged you to a Shokugeki?" Satoshi repeated. I nodded, not knowing what to say. "A Shokugeki is a cooking duel. Did you decide on a theme and date?" I racked my brain for answers.
"Our theme was Risotto and the date was erm... in thee days??" I rubbed the back of my head subconciously while staring at the ceiling as if it had all the answers I needed. Tomoko and Toshiro screamed it shock while Yuuka stiffened with a small 'eh?'
"WE GOT TO PREPARE YOU!" Tomoko yelled, pressing her hands against the side of her face in horror. I just blinked as they began to run around the room in panic. I watched in amusement at Yuuka's failing attempts to calm them down.
"Allright let's do this!" Satoshi jumped up with new found energy, flowers blossoming around his form.
