For the next few days, I ignored Harvey wherever I saw him. Once, he even tried to talk to me, but I feigned deaf.
I don't know why I was ignoring him. I have never ignored him even when he did the most evil things he could do. I always made him feel that he could never get the better of me. I know I'm immune to his pranks, but I'm still ignoring him. Does that even make any sense?
I hope he doesn't think I'm giving him the silent treatment. You only give that to friends. Or people who matter to you enough to show them that you are disappointed in them.
The bell rang, signalling the end of the last period. I got up and stretched. The hard wooden chair made my back stiff. I was going to my locker, minding my own business, when right in front of me, out of the air, stepped a witch. No, actually it was Hilda, and she stepped out of the ladies' room.
I screamed and covered my face.
"What are you doing?" asked Hilda.
"Oh! It's just you. I thought our school was under attack by aliens," I replied.
"Jealous much!" said Lisa.
"Wannabe much!" I retorted.
"Cut it out! Mary, I just wanted to remind you that your popularity graph is going to go even higher," said Hilda.
"Excuse me?" I said.
"I still have a few copies of that photo left," she smirked.
"Are you for real?" I said, astonished, "that's why Lucas is trying to get rid of you. You're too clingy."
"He's not! And I'm not clingy," she said.
"I saw Lucas the other day, he was flirting with a cheerleader," I said, "he said he was sick and tired of you."
Of course he's not, but she doesn't need to know that, does she? Muahahaha!
Her face visibly paled. "He must have been joking," she said.
"Yeah, right! Didn't look like it," I replied, rolling my eyes.
"It's none of your business. Whatever me or my boyfriend do. You just worry about your stupid photo," she said angrily.
"I'm not going to hear the end of it. Am I?" I asked.
"Nope!" she smirked.
"Fine! Now can you get out of my path, so I can go to my locker and take my things, and get the hell out of here?" I asked.
"Sure," she gave a dazzling smile but didn't move an inch. I growled in my throat and stepped aside to pass her.
I shook my head angrily and opened my locker to take my history book home. Miss David was the only teacher who gave homework almost everyday.
And what did I see in my locker? A flower! A tulip. A white tulip to be precise.
Seriously? A tulip? Who the hell gives a girl a tulip? What happened to giving roses? It's not like I want one. Even if it were a rose, I would have plucked all the petals and thrown them on the floor. Or in the bin, because I don't like uncleanliness. I don't like flowers. I don't know why, but I don't like them, like other people do. And especially, I won't like it if a boy gave it to me.
I looked into the locker, but there was no note. A secret admirer. With no taste in flowers. Hmm! Or he just likes tulips. But white? I shook my head and threw the tulip into the bin. The guy was a sissy. Not even a note!
But maybe he wasn't an admirer. It was just another trick by Hilda or Harvey. But how were they idiotic enough to put a tulip in, and not a rose. And then there should have been a romantic note. So it wasn't any enemy, trying to play with my emotions or ruining my reputation. Correct that! My so called reputation.
I should stop thinking about it. Whoever it is, if it's something important, he'll tell me who he is. If its not important, then I shouldn't bother about it.
~~~
I was doing my homework, when I started thinking about the flower again. I mean, who could it be? There was no one interested in me, except for humiliating me or enjoying my humiliation.
Well, there was someone. Yes, that's it! It must be Ralph. Should I tell Lily? Yep, I'll tell her. She'll be so jealous. And maybe I can even blackmail her or something. I know she'll do anything to try to coax me into rejecting him. What I didn't know was, that my plan was going to backfire.
I went to Lily's room and knocked loudly.
"Come in!" she said.
I went in and sat on the bed.
"Yes," she asked sweetly.
"In school today, I found a flower in my locker. I think it's from Ralph. He helps the record keeper, so he must have gotten my locker combination from her. I thought I might tell you this, because you are my cousin and you are interested in him," I added, feigning sweet.
"Was there a note?" she asked.
"Nope, no note," I replied.
"Hmmm! Which flower?" she asked again.
"It was a white tulip," I replied.
"A white tulip? Seriously? Did he want to create some peace between you? His taste in flowers and girls is disgusting," she said.
So, I was right. About the tulip. But, he chose me. Does that mean he has disgusting taste in girls too? I'm not that bad. Am I?
"Um, what do I do now?" I asked.
"Do whatever you want. He can't even afford a red rose. And can't even write a small poem in a perfumed envelope. He doesn't deserve me. And also, today, a very gorgeous football player asked me out. And he's romantic and rich," said Lily dreamily.
I never knew she could stoop so low. Actually, I kinda did. But really? Romantic and rich? Is that what girls look for, in a guy? They don't see if he is sensible and honourable. And most importantly, intelligent. I always look for intelligence in a person.
"Mary, day dreaming about him already?" Lily smiled maliciously, "I can't wait to tell someone that you got a white tulip from a geeky, wannabe secret admirer."
"I'm not," I tried to defend myself.
"He deserves only you. I think you'd be perfect together," she smiled her sickly sweet smile and I took it as my cue to leave.
Darn it! I'm in for another round of humiliation.
Will it ever end?
Author's note:
How was the chapter? And more importantly, who do you think put the flower there? And why? There's a very good clue in the chapter.
I really don't like flowers much, like other people do. But I don't hate them either :)
There's going to be a great scene with Harvey in the next chapter. So, say tuned for another update, which might be earlier than Friday, because I'm so excited to write it.
Vote, comment, follow, and share too, if you like. I'm trying to achieve my goal. I had a bet with my brother. So all girls, do not make me loose from a boy, please.
Stay happy. Bye.
