What Were Cities Like?

Every Thursday night was story night in our little house. Our parents sat us down and would tell us what life was like when they were kids. Tonight our parents were telling us about these things called cities. "You both have been to the cities with the ruined buildings that look like they've been bombed one too many times. Well those buildings used to be huge skyscrapers, taller than any building that we have now. There used to be people working and living in those tall buildings. There would be hundreds or thousands of people walking on the paved areas for people and lots and lots of cars driving the streets. The streets were also full of different smells from all the restaurants around the city. All the restaurants were full of couples and families enjoying life and not worried about anything going on around them. There were benches lining areas near the street for people to sit and wait for buses or to just sit and enjoy people watching. There were parks with tree that were green and had strong branches, the parks also had playgrounds for all the kids to go and enjoy themselves in. There were huge places to buy clothes and expensive things, they were called malls. Sometimes they would have fountains and the water would run all the time. There trains and subways, which are trains that run underground, tons of people took the subways to get to work or back home from work. There were people on bikes that would deliver packages, they were called bike messengers. They would ride their bikes really fast and they would weave in between cars so they got to their destination faster. People were so busy trying to get where they were going that most of the time they didn't really care about the other people around them. Which is probably why we don't have our cities anymore."
