Jimi and Frankie were a block away from their house, rolling through a neighborhood of run-down houses. They had a close friend that lived in this neighborhood. They passed by his house and he was on the curb. He waved them down. "Hey, guys!" He stood up.
"Hey, Matt." Jimi said, smiling.
Frankie bumped her with her elbow and Jimi pushed her back.
"So why are you sitting in front of your house?" Jimi picked up her board.
"Ah, my dad's drunk again and I don't have any money for gas and my board broke."
"That sucks, dude. Me and Frankie are gonna try to get jobs and make some money."
"Yeah, we're gonna pack our bags and leave. We're heading to Cali. Our mom has an old friend that moved out there. He was like a father to us when our's left. You should come with us." Frankie added.
"Yeah, I don't know. I always talk about leaving this dump, but I'm actually too afraid to leave."
"Hey, maybe we could all get jobs and earn some money. If we can stay here for about another year, we could leave." The boy smiled.
"Well it's time we head home. See you at school tomorrow."
Jimi and Frankie jumped on their boards and waved to Matt as they rode down the sidewalk to their street.
They reached their house on the corner of the block. Hopefully their mom was asleep. It was too dark to head back out and get something from the corner store. So they sighed and walked up the driveway of their home. It's not the best but it's better than what Matt lived in.

Frankie reached the door first and opened it quietly. Unfortunately, their mom was still awake. She yelled, "WHY ARE YOU TWO BACK SO LATE? HAD ME WORRIED SICK!" They heard some bumps, her vision wasn't the best and she ran into furniture.
"We're sorry, Mom" Frankie said. They both ran to their rooms.
Their mom called after them.
"Take your pills, mom!" Jimi yelled back.
They closed the door to their room  and Frankie climbed up on the top bunk and Jimi took the bottom. They were both too lazy to change.
"Night, Jimi." Frankie said in a tired voice and turned off the lights.
"Night." Jimi replied, closing her eyes, though she knew she wouldn't sleep anyways.
