That Awkward Moment When You Wonder Where to Hide a Body

It became apparent very fast why David had told me not to let Wiggins creep me out.  It's not like he said anything exactly, it was more how he spoke, and the fact that he wasn't really blinking.  "I see you were talking to my daughter, Teresa," He commented, pronouncing each word as if it were being blown away and the volume and speed along with it as he shut the door behind me.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise to what he had said.  That tall, thin, completely non-creepy girl in the waiting area was this guy's kid?

"Um, yeah, she seemed nice."

"Have a seat, Ms. Jacobs.  Allow me to welcome you to this school.  I hope you are enjoying it here."  Yeah, totally loving it.  Sure, Wiggins.  You tell yourself that.  "The rules of this place are simple,"  he breathed on, the look in his eyes vacant as he spoke.  "Have common sense, and be polite.  We do not tolerate any illegal activity.  On that note, I encourage you to make friends and have fun.  We have a very nice little community here."  He handed me a piece of paper.  "I find it best to start new students off right away.  If you will wait in the room outside a little more, I will send a student to show you to your classes.  This person will be your guide for your first week here.  They may not have the same classes as you, but they will walk you to them.  Thank you." And with that, he stood up and opened the door for me, beckoning for the kid with shaggy black hair in, excusing me.

"Thanks," I mumbled in passing, sitting beside Molly again, who had once again joined her friends in staring at me.

"That was short," Jason said, blinking.

"He's not one for long speeches," Teresa said, frowning.  "And not really used to having to welcome new kids either."

Molly snorted.  "He's not used to really having to do much of anything."  Teresa blushed.

"It's a small school!"

Jason held up his hands.  "Hey, let's let the... babe decide for herself."  He looked at me.

Ignoring the babe comment, because these people were insane, I said, "Honestly, it was such a short conversation, I couldn't really get a good look at his personality."  Now that I new he was Teresa's dad, I wasn't about to sat how weird I thought he was.  I wasn't usually that horrible.

She smiled.  "See?"  She stuck out her tongue at Molly, who grunted.  She turned to me again.  "Sorry.  Are we freaking you out?  I haven't really thought about that."  She looked at Jason.  "We're freaking her out, aren't we?"

He shrugged.  "I think your dad already sort of did that.  Ow!"  She had kicked him again.

"Sorry," she said, smiling apologetically at me.

"I- it's... fine," I replied.  Honestly, the people of New York were a whole lot crazier, but I was so used to the crazy that these small town possibly criminal people were even more so.  Molly half smiled, half glared at me.

"So, what are you still doing here?"

"Principle Wiggins said that he was going to send someone to help me around."

"Huh."

Jason nodded.  "I guess that makes sense."  His eyes lingered on my face, staring  intensely, making me squirm.  He just stared, and stared, and stared...  I raised my eyebrows.

"Jason, Jason."  Teresa punched him.  "Wake up."  He shook himself.

"Sorry," he laughed.  "It's just, wow, you're hot.  Have I mentioned that?"
