The Charge of Light Brigade

Death. Death of fellows, friends and foes.

Death waiting and watching while lives of men, die with their last breath.

Their faces haunting me and their cries echoing around me.

Wrapping me. Swallowing me whole.

Ruby tears of blood as sweet as wine, flowing down their faces.

The only sound I hear are the silent bang of bullets piercing through flesh.

Their desperate faces and glistening eyes fill with unshed tears.

The feeling of such sweet sorrow and bitter goodbies clouds the air.

Blood of youth in the hands of such fool, lives of young men used like a tool.

But no matter how much hate, vengeance, anger or sorrow,

They will never rise again for tomorrow.

Consequences. Everything we do affects something else, no matter how small or big it is. It's how the world is built. A Yin and Yang world, cause and effect.

When you do something, it always triggers something else, just as something has triggered your decision, your doing. Sometimes, we just need to be aware of these. Because some consequences are deadly.

Take, for example, the famous Charge of the Light Brigade. One man's decision affected a whole cavalry's lives. A decision he didn't even think about. And as a foolish result, hundreds of young men died, all because of one mistake. One miscalculation.

The world is connected, some people say. The world may or may not be planned and ordered into a whole grand scheme, but everyday of our lives we make decisions. That freewill enables us to make a choice. A choice that in some way or the other affects others as well.

What experiences have you had that affected others? Aware or not, we ourselves may help in causing someone pain.

This poem was written a long long time ago, back when I was studying the original Charge of the Light Brigade poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and it got me thinking about mistakes, about responsibility and, of course, consequences. Think before you act.

Enjoy,

K.D.
