**Georgia's POV**
I was in tears as the police officer spoke the words I had been fearing for so long. "I'm sorry, ma'am, but the trail for your son has gone cold. There is little to no hope of finding him now."
"I still have hope. Please, officer, please keep searching," I had tears streaming down my cheeks as the man's hard face turned into a sullen frown.
"I know how hard this is for you, but-"
"But nothing," I hissed. "You don't know how it feels to lose your son. Do you have children? I don't see a ring on your finger. How would you know how it feels to lose the thing you cared about most?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Please, just leave. You obviously don't want to help anymore. So if you aren't going to assist me in finding my son, then I'll show you the door." The man's thick shoulders slumped down as he walked toward the front door, but he stops just before he is out of the house.
"I lost my daughter in a house fire when she was two," he said. Then he was gone. The door had closed and I heard the engine of the police cruiser start up and drive down the street.
I collapsed onto the floor and brought my knees close to my chest. I stayed like this for hours, tears streaming down my face until eventually a throbbing pain arose in my head and chest. It was the only thing that slowed the waterfalls from my eyes.
It's really true, I'm never going to find Lucas. He's gone.
***Lucas's POV***
The crack in my door grew wider day by day. The force from Jacob's slamming when he would leave would cause the wood to splinter. Eventually it was wide enough for my hand to stick through, still, Jacob had failed to notice it.
When I was taken from my room to get washed up I no longer had to deal with the blindfold, so I was able to see all the windows that still had shutters closed.
Where's Holly? I haven't seen anybody come by to stab her recently. Has she escaped. Has Jacob killed her? Oh my God, did he kill her? I swear if he killed her I'm going to-
"Morning Luke," Jacob calls as he opens the door. I had my foot bound to the bed I was lying in. In his hand was a bowl with a spoon in it. "Eat up, it's time for breakfast."
"Jacob," I say. "How long have I been here?"
"Five months." He sets the bowl on the table next to me and unties my ankle. "That's one more month than the last time you asked me."
I quickly stand up and make a break for the open door, but my weak legs can't move as fast, so I don't even make it out before Jacob is on me.
"You little son of a bitch." He picks my up by my arms and drops me onto the hard bed. Soon enough both of my ankles and bound closely to the bed. "You can sit up to eat and lie down. Don't expect to get out of bed for another week."
"Why the hell do you want me here," I scream.
"You're my brother. I love your girlfriend. We're married now. I want you to see how happy we are together."
"What the hell are you talking about?" All the fight in me had flooded out of my body and my voice came out as a slight squeak.
"Holly and I are married now. She has forgotten about you. She loves me now." With that he left the room and slid the lock as he left.
What does that mean? Surely she didn't forget about me, right? Oh my God, what if she did? It's been months since I've seen her. She's been starved. What if she believes she loves him? She doesn't care about me any more.
I let out a shrill scream before my head falls against the mattress again. God damn it, Luke, screaming isn't going to get you anywhere. I lifted my hand and reached for the bowl on the table. It was a small serving of some kind of cereal. There wasn't a point in the spoon, as there was no milk in the bowl.
I use my fingers to pick up the cereal piece by piece. As I eat thoughts shoot through my head. What if everyone has forgotten about me? What if I'm just a forgotten name in the back of people's minds?
