Jessie barely said anything as I placed her in the car and drive away from her house. I made sure she got the little things she would need, like her phone and keys. Being a good person, I made sure all her doors were locked before going back to the car.
"You're a great girl, Autumn," Jessie said, placing her hand on mine.
"I try," I smiled, moving my hand so I held hers. It was still cool and soft.
"Autumn...thank you for being here, with me. I can't even explain how much you mean to me. Ever since we've met, officially, you stuck by my side. Not caring about our past together. You're just so special, Autumn."
"Not really. You're just saying that."
"No, I mean it. Sam's never cared for me, even though I thought she did. She didn't truly love me, I guess. She never used to show much affection. She just used me."
"For money?" I asked.
"No. For sex. That's what they all do."
"Oh, Jessie. I would never do that to you. You're more than that."
Suddenly, I thought that was unnecessary. She wasn't looking for a relationship, especially not with me. Since everything with Sam happened. Thinking about it made me angry, but it immediately vanished as soon as I felt Jessie's head on my shoulder. She scooted closer and cuddled into me when I didn't move.
"I wish I had talked to you sooner, Autumn. Not talking was just a waste of time in high school."
"But it's fine," I said. "As long as I have you now. You know, as a friend."
"Yeah. A friend." She said it with a hint of disappointment, and it made me wonder if she actually wanted to be more than friends.
We arrived at my house, and I carried Jessie inside and up to my room. "You have a very nice apartment, Autumn. Where's Sarah?" She asked as I laid her down on my bed.
"Out with her boyfriend. She's probably staying the night, too. It's what she always does."
Jessie nodded, sipping on her bottled water. I sat beside her, and jumped when Simba hopped on the bed. Jessie cooed at my kitten.
"Jessie, this is Simba, my kitten," I said.
"He's so cute! Oh my gosh, he's adorable!" Jessie began rubbing behind his ears and scratching his head. She squealed as he climbed up and licked her face like a weirdo.
I smiled at the two. Jessie wasn't lying when she said she was an animal lover. She didn't look tired anymore as she played with my kitten.
"I'll be right back," I said, then got up and headed to the kitchen.
A few moments later, I felt something soft around my legs and saw Simba. "Silly Simba. You're supposed to be with Jessie."
"He sort of is."
I turned around quickly to see Jessie leaning against the wall, looking tired again. She warily smiled at me, and I hurried to her. "Jess, you're supposed to be in bed."
"But, I wanted to be near you," she said, blushing a deep red.
A smile was cracked at her cuteness. She was adorable beyond words. I pushed some of her hair back from her face, feeling how hot her skin was. At that moment, Jessie looked up, and we made eye-contact. We gazed at each other for a moment too long. Our faces were close to each other, too close. And the urge to kiss her came over me, but I just couldn't. I didn't want to ruin our friendship.
But Jessie did. The fiery passion shown in her eyes. She wanted something to happen, wanted us to make a move in each other. Her jaw visibly clenched, as her gaze lowered before meeting my eyes again.
Just as I thought she was leaning in, I asked, "Are you hungry?"
I looked away and took a step back, and the moment was purposely ruined by me. No matter how much I longed to kiss Jessie and make her feel loved by me, I couldn't. I didn't know if she was truly over with Sam or not, and she probably wouldn't be in the mood for a relationship at the moment, plus, she's just had a seizure.
Jessie shook her head and looked down. Now I feel bad, and I lifted her chin. "Maybe you should get some rest. I want you to feel better."
She nodded, and I helped her upstairs and into the bed. I pulled her shoes off, and Jessie requested for me to undress her some.
"Do you want me to get you a night shirt?" I asked nervously. Even though I knew Jessie had a very nice body, I'm not sure if I could stand to see her in just her underwear. I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes from her.
"Yeah, that would be great, thanks." Jessie began unbuttoning her shirt, but her hands shook so much she could barely pull the button through the hole.
"I got it," I murmured, getting closer to her. I started to unbutton her shirt, trying to not stare at her chest. Her breath hit my face softly as I did this, and I felt my face heat up. It grew hotter when I finished unbuttoning to see that she had no bra on.
Immediately afterwards, I removed my hands and turned away from her. It would be impolite to stare at her naked torso.
"Autumn, we have the same parts," Jessie giggled.
"They're different sizes, they look different, and they're just different all together because they aren't on the same body." It got annoying when members of the same sex say that, because although it was the same in theory, it really wasn't.
"Have you thought about this before?" Jessie asked.
"Well, yeah. I hear it all the time with my past relationships and with Sarah."
"What if you had a twin? Would it be the same then?"
"Of course not. Even if it may look identical, they're in two different bodies."
"You're so deep in certain things. I like that. Um, could you hand me a shirt?"
I went through my drawers and found a night shirt for both Jessie and I. And I turned around to see Jessie in only her underwear. On total accident, I caught sight of her completely naked top, and whirled back around.
Holy crap that was weird, but I oddly liked it. Her breasts looked so perfect. They were small and perky, and her nïpples were hard from the cold air. I shouldn't be thinking about Jessie like that. She's my friend. My friend and that's all.
"I'm sorry, Jessie," I apologized.
"No, I should be sorry. But, I wanted to prove my point that we have the same parts. Do they look any different than yours?"
"That was risky, Jessie. And yes, they really do look different. We have different skin tones, and I'm a ginger. I have freckles."
"And your freckles look adorable. So, could you give me my shirt? I'm kinda cold."
Says the girl who wanted me to look at her chest. I held the shirt out backwards and started walking backwards also. I felt Jessie tug on the shirt, so I released it. Then I told Jessie I would change in the bathroom.
"Wait, Autumn. Turn around."
I hesitated. "Are you dressed?"
"Yes, silly."
I turned to see Jessie in the large top I gave her. She looked so cute in it, way better than I did. She pushed her hair behind her ears and smiled bashfully up at me. "You would never leave me, would you?" She asked.
"Never planned it."
Jessie smiled at me, and I gave her one in return before leaving the room with my heart beating out of my chest.
