Every other chapter will be a flashback to their high school years. This is one of those chapters!

First day of school, Sophomore year of High School.

"Well, good luck, honey! Make friends!" My moms says joyfully as I walk out the door. I get onto the crowded bus #29 and take a seat in the front with the other scared new kids. The only problem is that I'm an abnormally tall solfmore and they're short freshmen.

All of the seats are ripped or have dicks drawn on them and I'm pretty sure the kids behind me are smoking. The bus driver just pays attention to the road, which I guess is a good thing.

We drive up a few houses until another really shy kid gets on. I guess he's scared to sit in the back, too.

"Ca-Can I sit with you?" He whispers. "Uh, yeah." I move my book bag over and he sits next to me. "Hi. I'm Alex. What's your name?" I speak up after a few minutes. "I'm Leigh, but you can call me Dan." He says looking down. "Well, Dan, nice to meet you." I say back. He looks up at me and smiles. We both go back to looking out of the window my long after.

*time skip to second period*

I walk into my history class and see Dan sitting alone in the middle row. I quick shuffle over and sit beside him. "Oh, hello again!" He greets me.

The old, cranky teacher comes in moments later to hand out papers we need to sign for his class. Only the rubric and stuff.

"Okay, class, now next week we have to do the state testing, so for now we go over the rules of this class!" He whacks a yard stick on the blackboard. I guess he uses that as a pointer.

Here we go...

After many excruciating minutes of him go on about rules and regulations, he gives us five minutes of class to talk with the people in our class. Everyone has their little group of friends they sit with except for me.

I take my book out of my book bag and start reading.

"Oh, hey, I really like that book." Dan says quietly. "Oh, did you read it?"
"Yeah. I read it last year. It's worth the hundreds of pages. " he smiles again.

"Well, now I want to read it for something other than a stupid project." I joke with him. He giggles and goes back to talking to his other nerdy friends.

I think I just made a new friend.
