Chapter 1
I heard an annoying noise. A high pitched beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Another beep.
Beep.
My name is Liz Peyton, I'm 17 years old, I live in Bradford, I'm originally from the States.....
I opened one eye slowly. A bright light made my head pound, and I immediately shut my eyes again.
"What the hell?" were the first words out if my mouth. I heard a sob.
"Is she...?" It was a male voice. A male voice that I didn't recognize.
"Yes." I heard another sob. A sob of relief.
I opened my eye again slowly. Pain seared in my head. I saw a boy that couldn't have been any older than me....He was tall with a dark colored quiff and brown eyes (and quite attractive might I add). His eyes were red and puffy as if he'd been crying.
"Who are you?" I blurted, my eyes widening.
"I...I'm....You don't...? But I'm...you're...we're..." The boy's face fell and his shoulder slumped. I saw a man in a labcoat approach my bed--a doctor--as I had concluded that I was in the hospital.
"What is your name?" he asked. A sharp pain went through my side, and I cringed.
"Elizabeth. Liz...Peyton," I said.
"What's your age?" The doctor asked me.
"Erm...I'm seventeen. I just turned seventeen a couple of days ago," I told him, another sharp pain in my head.
"Uh...Miss Peyton? The year is 2012," the doctor said very carefully. I shook my head immediately.
"Impossible. Impossible. I'm seventeen years old," I told the doctor, very bewildered.
"The year is 2012," he repeated. "Now, where do you live?"
"Uh, I live in Bradford, but I....The States," I blurted randomly. "But why are you asking all these damn questions?"
"What is the last thing you remember?" he asked, ignoring my questions.
"Hell no! Answer my question!" I told him. He glared at me, clearly pissed. I realized it wasn't the time. "X-Factor. I was going to audition. Then...then...I..." I couldn't remember. "Mum'll know what happened. Wait where's my mother? Mum? My mum. Where is she?" I panicked.
"Miss Peyton, she is...uh...." The doctor looked at the ground. No. Oh god. No no no.
"MUM! MOM! NO WHERE IS SHE! WHERE IS MY MOTHER? WHERE IS SHE? MUM! MUM?" I sobbed. "MUM PLE-E-EASE!" I sobbed even harder.
"Miss Peyton, do you know why you're here?" The doctor peered at me over his glasses.
"I DON'T CARE. WHERE. IS. MY. MOTHER?" I screamed.
"Your mother is dead-"
"YOU CAN'T JUST SPRING IT ON HER! YOU MIGHT AS WELL TELL HER EVERYTHING!" the raven-haired boy interrupted.
"My mother is dead?" I choked out. The doctor nodded.
"Fuck you," I cried. He just laughed.
"Please, just let me explain," he told me. Oh god.
