Sam stared in disbelief at his once blank wrist. Now there were two, simple, little words. Words that had shattered his life and broke his mind in less time then it took to read them. This wasn't how it worked. Every one had words on their wrist, the first words their soulmate would speak to them, but Sam had already found his soulmate. When Jess died, his heart broke into a million fragments that nothing could heal. Her words were the only thing he had left of her, but over time they had faded and faded till they completely disappeared. From that day on his blank wrist had been a reminder of what he once had, and would never have again. Or so he thought.
Hello, again.
Stood out in black letters on his creamy skin. What did this mean? Was Jess coming back? Sam expected his heart to jump and leap at that prospect, but you felt nothing. Would he even want Jess to come back? He would just be throwing her into a world of monsters where he would most likely just lose her again. Was it someone else? If so, who? And why would they be saying Hello, again? Sam sat, deep in thought foe god knows how long before he realized that he wasn't alone.
"Sammy, Sammy you okay? Sammy!" Dean stood over him, a hand on his shoulder, eyes shadowed in concern.
"Huh, what? Oh, yea, I'm fine." Sam shook his head and pulled down his sleeve to cover up what had caused him such distress.
"You don't look okay, man. You look like you've seen a ghost." Brown eyes snapped closed at Dean's choice of words, Jess flashing behind them. "Well, a normal person who's seen a ghost." He rambled on, oblivious to the new words on Sam's wrist.
"I'm fine. What was it that you wanted?"
dean sobered up, eyes becoming clouded with hurt. "Y/n called. She needs us to come get her."
"Where is she?" Sam was already up and on his way the get his bag.
"Hospital, Saint Luis, Missouri." Dean grabbed his keys and leather jacket.
"What's she doing there?" The duffle landed with a thump in the back of the Impala, right next to Deans.
"There was a hunting accident." Dean turned the key in the ignition and roared away down the road.
Sam sat in shock. Y/n, in a hunting accident. That wasn't possible. Y/n doesn't make mistakes. His heart stilled. Was she okay? Was she hurt? She had called, so she was alive. But would she stay that way? He couldn't lose you too, you were his best friend. You were the one that stayed up late into the next morning to help with research. You were the one that would geek out with him over the new old book he had found. You were the one that was always there with a hug and a kind word. Imagining life with out her was crazy, and imposable. He stayed awake the entire drive there, worrying. When they got to the hospital, Sam jumped out and basically ran into the waiting area. Dean went to the desk, politely asking after their friend.
"She'll be down in a moment. If you could just wait here." The nurse gave them a tense smile, then turned back to her computer.
"Calm down, Sammy." Dean walked over to his brother.
"I can't calm down Dean, what if she's not okay?" Sam paced back and forth across the small area. He raised a hand up, running it through his hair.
"They wouldn't be letting her leave if she wasn't- Sam. What's on your wrist?"
Sam froze. He had forgotten about that. His arm dropped, wrist turned forward so that Dean could read it. The elder brother just stared, confused and unsure as to what to do next. He opened his mouth, but before he could say anything a sweet small voice came from behind them.
"Hello, again."
Dean cleared his throat and walked away, not even looking at Y/n.
"Sam? What's wrong?"
Sam just continued to stare, his eyes traveling over her body. Her hair was greasy and tangled, a bit of blood in it. She has a cut across her forehead that had been stitched back together again. Her jeans were dirty and torn, her t-shirt one from the hospital. There were no terrible wounds that he could see, causing him to relax just a bit.
"Are you okay?"
Y/n stiffened, her eyes going wide. "Sam-
"I know."
"But how, I only got the words today. And you and Jess and your words and they were gone... but how?"
Sam walked forward, holding out his wrist so she could see. "They showed up right before you called."
"Why now?"
"I don't think I was ready to give up Jess before today. When I found out you were here, I forgot all about it, only thing I could think of was you." As he said this he continued to walk forward. He slipped his hands around her waist, pulling her into his embrace. He didn't even think about it when he did. It was just instinct. Now that he thought about it, he had always had this possessiveness about Y/n. She was his. He smiled and leaned back a bit, only to see her smiling up at him.
"So, you gonna take me home?"
His smile only grew. "Of course." And the he leaned down and captured her lips with his.
