We ran down numerous hallways the man never slowing. And while Caerwyn seemed to be trying not to pass him, I was huffing and puffing, trying to barely keep up with them.
"Hey can we-". I took a deep breath, " I don't know, stop for a sec? I'm not as fit as you guys" I said breathing heavily. I leaned against the nearest wall, feeling like I just ran a mile. Ugh I hate running it didn't help that I had a concussion. So far we had run down at least three hallways and turned so many corners that I had quickly lost count.
Throughout the whole run my head was pounding, and a few times I would loose my balance because my vision would go spotty or everything would start to look warped. And I don't even want to talk about the stairs, that was a challenge.
Right at the start Caerwyn had noticed I wasn't functioning correctly, so he told me to put my hand on his head and he would help to guide and stabilize me if I began to fall as we ran through the endless amount of hallways.
The large man stopped and looked at me. "I know that you probably shouldn't be running with you health as it is right now, but we need to continue, our attackers might catch up with us."
" You mean your attackers, they're not coming for me. I'm not part of this" I started, waving my arms around as a way to show whatever 'this' was
" Even so they will most likely assume that you are one of us and will not hesitate to kill you as well" He replied, worriedly raking his fingers through his dark brown hair.
" Wait they're killing people?" His words scared me, why would they kill people? What was so important that they would kill others over?
There is a scent of blood in the air. Caerwyn said quietly.
I looked at Caerwyn shocked, "You mean people have already died?" Caerwyn looked away.
"Look I'm not sure if your some wolf whisperer or if you're just crazy." The man said looking at me like I was insane. Earlier he had caught me talking to Caerwyn and I had tried to brush it off by saying that I just really like dogs, but he hadn't looked to convinced.
"Anyways" the man started, pulling me from my thoughts, "we need to get going, sorry about this"
I Looked at him not understanding what he meant. He walked towards me and before I could protest, he slung me over his shoulder and started to sprint down the hallways, Caerwyn following at his heels.
I groaned, "Is this necessary? Do I have to be treated like a sack of potatoes, because I am not a potato." My head didn't appreciate the sudden movement, or the part when it was basically upside down. I started to see black spots again.
The man huffed, "Well I did apologise, but this is the fastest and easiest way for me to run and carry you at the same time, it might not be the most comfortable thing but let me tell you, a bullet wound isn't a fun time either. Anyways you have a concussion so you shouldn't have been running in the first place."
"Well how can I be ok with this if I don't even know your name, or who you are? I mean you could be a freakishly ginormous hobbit named tiny and I wouldn't know " I stated loudly. It annoyed me that I had still yet to know his name when his voice sounded so familiar.
"The names Garak, and while we're at it, what's yours?" He asked me after running down a flight of stairs. I had thought we were already on the bottom floor but I guess not. Then it hit me, Garak was the person who carried me away from the tree, ah ha go me for remembering that.
"My name is Lucelia" I replied, then I asked Caerwyn in my head if I should tell Garak his name as well.
No, however if he askes, use a generic dog name, I would rather this group of humans not know my name, he replied, then went back to focusing on running.
Whatever floats your boat, I thought back to him. I'm getting pretty good at this whole mental communication, though it annoyed my concussion a bit.
Garak continued running down hallways, and flights of stairs, honestly this guy was like a tank. He started to run down another flight of stairs, without slowing, was this guy even human?
I started to think that we would never get to where ever it was that we were going to until Garak started to slow down, saying that we were getting pretty close. For some reason the change in speed started to make me really tired, or maybe it was just my concussion again, but eventually I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
