Irene Greves

Chapter Four: Eriza Zellar

"Lord Eriza, I only wished to help..." Nathaniel appeared, on his knees, and in his vampire form. I stared at him in shock. He was afraid? Him? Never mind him, or that creature... I must finish my song...

"Irene," The creature's head turned upside-down, so he could look at me. "Please do not refer to me as a creature. I am Eriza. I am as much a vampire, and human looking as this fool here," Eriza pointed to Nathaniel. Why was he so mad? What had Nathaniel done to anger him so? "He was not supposed to allow you to come here. You were supposed to be clueless to our world. We have misled humans of what we are for reasons. Good reasons..." He lurched his body upright, to the stance of a man. Even though it had been speaking, the bone-like teeth had not moved. The jaw stayed in its place. As if it's real mouth was deep in its body. "I asked you not to call me an it. I am not a monster, Irene. If anyone is, it is you."

"How am I a monster?" I stood, angered by what he had just said. He twisted his head, or rather skull... all the way around and seemed to be smiling.

"You know the song to the gate. I have other things to attend to, so pardon me for a moment..." His head twisted back around, and he made a pose like an animal. Nathaniel screeched as Eriza disappears. I walked forward, toward the two vampires. Humming my lullaby, I watched Eriza tear at Nathaniel's throat with his pointed, bone teeth. He screeches came to a stop, Eriza rose up, and started to morph.

He appeared human. And looked similar to Nathaniel. A brother, perhaps? Or a closed relative, in general. But there was a big difference in them. Eriza was much more human looking. Actually, he was very attractive. Not humanly attractive, as in otherworldly. It made me wonder how they looked so similar.

"Irene, you should leave now. I do not wish for it, but you must leave. Allow me to guide you out..." His voice was dark. Not necesarily deep, or handsom sounding, but dark. It certainly did not match his face. It sounded as if it belonged to someone who had sucluded themself from soceity completely, and talked to none but themself. But also had the sound of one who hated most everyone,a nd wished to kill any who said the wrong thing. He put his hand on the door. The letters started to glow, but only in a straight line the light went. The huge doors opened. All the while, Eriza did not take his eyes from me. As if he was studing me. He smiled, and took my hand. "Shall we go?"

I did not have a chance to answer, for as soon as we stepped out into the night, he jumped. High enough off the ground to see the entire labyrinth, but certainly not enough to touch the clouds. I covered my eyes, in hope that I would not get sick. I heard a slicking noise, and looked over at Eriza. Bat wings. But... they had black feathers on them here and there. He held onto me tight, to be sure that I would not fall.

"Whatever you do, as my father said in the past, do not enter the grounds of the Blackened Sky Kingdom. Not unless I come for you. And do not, whatever you do, fall in love with Alexander. He is a smart one, and is far from being what you think he is..." he told me with a worried expression.

"I cannot. For Alexander, it is impossible. He is just not someone I would fall for..." I replied. Eriza smiled again.

"Well, then I do not have to worry there... But still, heed my words..."
