Hanji opened the fridge slowly, made sure no one else was around, before taking out her favourite strawberry ice pop.
Her eyes lit up when she undid the wrapper.
But before she could even take a bite, there was a flicker of movement of a tongue on the ice pop, followed by a sheepish smile.
"Sorry, couldn't help it." Levi shyly bowed his head.
Hanji could only blink before she finally responded, "It's okay." She said monotonously and took a bite out of it.
She glanced at Levi, who was staring at her in interest and deep curiosity. She continued taking one last bite, her eyes on the ice pop, but her mind on the teenage boy who was still looking at her with innocence. She pointed her ice pop at him,"Levi you want some more?"
"Uh huh." Levi nodded eagerly,"So you like strawberry ice-pops too, Hanji?"
"That was a stupid question." Hanji mused as Levi's figure once again leaned forward, one hand placed on the counter, while the other on the stick of the ice pop on top of Hanji.
Levi could see Hanji's shoulder muscles tense up before relaxing ever so slightly.
"Levi."
"Yes, Hanji-san?"
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing-"
"Nobody told me there was ice cream!!" They heard Eren run into the kitchen, staring at the ice pop in Hanji's hand as if it was an extra terrestrial object."It's an ice pop, dumbass." Hanji muttered under her breath.
Eren held in his breath before he tried to squeeze in between them.
"One bite, okay, Hanji?"
"No."
"Awh, come on!"
"Go get your own. I think there's still one left in the freezer."
"Okay thanks!"Hanji paused. "Wait, how did you get into the house?"
Eren hadn't even heard what Hanji said. He looked at her with the pleading eyes that she couldn't say no to.
"It's okay...Hanji-san." Levi opened the freezer door, "There are more ice pops here...And I was thinking...you want to share one more?"
There was a tinge of innocent hopefullness in Levi's voice that made it hard to resist the offer. As if she even wanted to say no in the first place."Because it's fun eating it with you." Hanji swore she saw Levi wink from behind his lenses.
"R-really?." Hanji's expression softened before she tensed up again,"Well Levi, if you insist. Tch."
Levi peered into the freezer and froze. Not because of the sudden rush of cold air but because there was no ice pops left. Levi's eyes did not dare meet Hanji's. "Uh...There isn't any left... Hanji-san." Levi brought out the bad news to her as he closed the freezer door.Levi could feel the disappointment welling up in him. The disappointment that everybody would feel when there is no food left in the fridge. The feeling that makes you want to open and close the fridge aggressively many times.
"Levi, do you want to go grocery shopping along the streets?" Hanji looked at Levi in the eye. Levi perked up, and seemingly cheered up a bit
"Of course, let's go--" Hanji ran ahead to catch up with Levi, hiding the fact that she's looking forward to this.
"Tch, let's go, since we have no lessons or other shit. Time to breathe in the shitty air from the sewages, as those little shits call it," Hanji murmured as she stood up. Levi laughed and followed her out of the building to the nearest shop.
When silence filled the air, Levi looked up slightly at Hanji, "You're a funny person you know."
"I know."
Levi looked down on the ground and smiled to himself,"that's what I thought."
"Hey, Hanji-San, let me help you carry the ice pops!" Levi immediately took one of the bags from Hanji and skipped along the streets ahead of her.
"Shitty glasses, that wasn't the bag of ice pops." Hanji looked at the silhouette in front who blissfully hasn't heard her. And passers-by could have sworn she smiled.
