Chapter 3 Laura's P.O.V
Alright so this guy somehow knows what all my family wants, he has also mentioned there names a few times even though I haven't mentioned them. This guy is either a stalker or a mind reader, I'm not sure which one is more comforting. But his personality and sense of humor is great and he hasn't tried to harm me, yet. Somewhere within myself I realized he's harmless but my rational thinking is still kicking me, telling me to stay alert. So I did, the whole time we were shopping I was very aware of where he was at all times, where his hands were and how he stood. I was used to looking for the signs of someone just about to pounce, my step mother (who I used to live with) was abusive towards me. And my mums ex boyfriends where mostly all abusive towards her. I have learnt to be tough but there's only so much I can do when the person has twice my strength.
Nicks face softened, and his eyes held pity. Does he know what I'm thinking or am I just overreacting? I decided to try it out. ' I'm thirsty,' I thought, I felt it too.
"How about we get a drink? I'm pretty thirsty." He said thoughtfully. I glared at him. "Whats wrong?" He asked, trying to look innocent.
"You know what's wrong Edward Cullen!" I exclaimed. He looked down, slightly embarrassed and thoughtful.
"I'm not very good at hiding that.. Particular talent am I?" He asked me.
"Not particularly no. So how is it you happen to have it?" I asked curiously. Being the incredibly open minded person I am I was'nt freaked out or anything, just interested and a little embarrassed. Can he read my mind all the time or only some of the time?
"Not sure, I suppose it's inherited. my father had the same 'gift' too." He shrugged. You could tell he wasn't exactly proud of it, more ashamed really.
"Do you do it all the time or just some of the time?" I asked, curious.
"Everyone I have ever met and ever seen thoughts run through my head all the time. I'm able to block it out but sometimes, especially when I'm close to the person, it can be very difficult." He explained. Damn, that doesn't sound too easy. I could see his pained expression and realized that if everyone he has ever glimpsed at thoughts go through his head then that must of been hundreds of people. How did he pay any attention to what anyone really says to him if all that is happening?
"Ah, it gets easier, trust me." He answered my unspoken question. And how on earth am I going to hide my thoughts from him?
"It's fine, the only reason im listening to them now is because I want to answer any questions you might have. I will stop now though, so please if you have anymore ask me." He said earnestly.
"I will I promise." I smiled at him. His bright blue eyes were shining even more then they were before shopping and he was smiling a lot more too shopping for people sure seems to make him happy.
I was thinking that just as I walked past Santa. Nicks face lit up even more, in fact he looked a heck load more happier then the parents waiting in the extra long que to see Santa.
"Look it's Santa!" Some kid pointed at Nick and said.
