-Yara-
Have you ever wondered what horror feels like?
It's when blind people waiting for a crosswalk light to change and a stranger grabs their arm, trying to help them (when actually they aren't helping at all).
"Let me help you" stranger says and shove blind people across the street they weren't intending to cross and stranger disappears, thinking they've done a good deed but NO!
Strangers don't even ask if I needed any help.
And that's what happened to me. Just now. I'm stuck in an unknown street corner.
I get really insulted by overcompensating kindness, as by judgement— helping me cross the street for example.
Yes, I am blind. Luckily Mr. Smith caught me standing on an unknown street corner while driving his way to school.
Mr. Smith is our school principal. Back then, In between each class, when I was new, Mr. Smith guided me everywhere so I can learn the route of each classroom.
"Aren't you supposed to be wearing sunglasses?" Mr. Smith asks.
"Why would I?" I asked, playing dumb.
"Well, many blind people wear sunglasses. Does it help, you know, to protect your eyes from the rays of the sun or are your eyes sensitive to sunlight?"
"We're not vampires" I say.
He does his fake laugh, but I know he's still desperately curious. Probably wants to know if I have dreams. What ever. He can google it later.
I asked Mr. Smith to leave me at the doorway to Mrs. Rook's classroom, and then I walk in the same desk every classroom. I already know the route, after all.
When the bell rings, Mrs. Rook addresses the class. "Boys and Girls, welcome to Science. This is unlike any other class you'll take during highschool. We don't have textbooks, we don't have tests, we don't have lectures. We work together to explore things, discover and share, and you'll be graded on how well you contributed to that goal"
I hear quick footsteps as someone walks in late.
"Do you have a note for being tardy, Mr. Carson?"
"No"
I recognized the sound of his voice from the morning ceremony making announcements about school rules and such.
"Then don't let it happen again" She continues to the class, "As what I was saying, In my Science class, it's going to be tiring—disregard those who likes traveling because starting next month, we'll be traveling outside the country to explore and discover things. This month you'll be processing your parent's permission and ofcourse your passport, if you do not have one. This is all, class dismissed."
When Mrs. Rook walks out, voices out of happiness is what I hear. I'm not happy at all because I won't go even If I want to. What's the point? I can't see.
I sighed loudly, leaving Science class, depressed. And went my way to music class.
Mr. Mendeleev talked about our schedule for the year and some rules to follow in his class. Mr. Mendeleev grabs something.
