What Used to Be Human

Chapter 3

A/N SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO UPDATE! I was in california partying it up..without internet :'( sike i wasn't partying but yeah, there was no internet. Sorry if this chapter is dissapointing :( I'm kinda shy on posting it since i hate this chapter with a passion. Eh...we'll see how it works out

     We finally made it to Colorado. I'd say we were one third into Colorado. Nightfall came fast. Too fast. We parked under a tree and called it a night. 

"Shouldn't we take night watches?" Vera asked nervously. 

"Well duh" Cameron said. "I don't wanna get killed for such a stupid mistake. I'll take the first watch" 

We all agreed that we'd each take watch for two hours. I took a look at my watch. It glowed 9:04. It's a good thing it was summer because the days were longer, but it was still..a few more hours of daylight wouldn't kill us. I laid down and quickly drifted off to sleep. It felt like five minutes before I was awaken by Cage. 

     "Sup" He crawled back to the trunk to sit next to me.

I stretch and yawn. "Aren't you going to sleep? Your watch is over"

He just shrugs. "Insomnia. Had it since the zombies took over"

I just nod since I don't really know how to respond to it. After a moment of silence I finally respond "I guess it's hard to sleep knowing you could die any second"

He presses his hand on my face, just staring at me. This was a little awkward for me. I feel something under his hand. It felt cold. I took his hand off my face and held it in my hand.

"What is this?" I ask. 

Through the moonlight I can see his face full of warmth. He smiled at me and whispered. "Happy early birthday Ara" 

I was stunned. He actually remembered? He took his hand off mine and revealed a gorgeous charm bracelet. Silver. I studied it closely. 

"What do they mean?" I asked.

He took the charm bracelet from my hand and held it up. He pointed at the top of the charm bracelet. 

"The Eiffel tower" he said. "So that maybe one day after all this chaos you'll finally get to see it" He then points to the next thing. It was a music staff with notes on it. "This one's for your passion of music, so that you can continue it" He moved on and held the charm that said HOPE. "This is hope for that we can make it out alive and together" He moves down to the cross. "Belief" He says. "Dont stop! Believing" he sings terribly off key. I laugh and he continues. "Kids. So that maybe you can grow old and have kids some day" Lastly he points to a heart that has I LOVE YOU written inside it. He leans in close to me. His lips purse close to my ears. I can feel my heart speed up and my neck tingle from where his breath meets it. "The I love you" he says. "Meaning i'll always love you"

     He pulls back and gazes at me. Leans in closer. My heart races. Palms sweat. I'm short of breath. What does this mean? Is this how it feels when you like someone? He leaned in even closer, but towards my lips. He stopped midway when Cameron started to mumble. Suddenly he sat up screaming. That was a moment killer. A few seconds after he screamed, Vera shot up with her gun, ready to kill someone at a moment's notice. 

"Cameron!" I yelled. "What the heck dude?!" 

He just stared at me, then at Cage. Cameron looked stunned and scared. He looked paler than usual and was sweating a lot. He wiped his hand across his forehead. 

"I had a scary dream" he said. 

Vera rolled her eyes. "No reason to scream over it" She said.

"A zombie was eating my parents" He said. This got Vera to pipe down. 

"Sorry" She said. He gave her a weak smile. 

"It's alright..." He said. "It was just so realistic..I thought it was real. I thought they were dying" He shook his head and reclined back on his seat. "Sorry for waking you all up"

"No it's fine" Cage said.

     We all quiet back down, but none of us can sleep. No one says anything either. I play with the charm bracelet on my wrist, just thinking, wondering if Cage really loves me. I look at him laying down next to me in the trunk. His eyes are closed but I know he's not asleep. I study his face. His bangs are flipped down, covering his eyes. His lips are slightly parted. His jaw is relaxed as well as everything else. Suddenly his thick eyelashes flick up and reveal his hazel eyes. He sees me staring at him, gets up, and smiles. 

"Thinking about me?" He whispers. I roll my eyes and he smirks, but loses the smirk very fast. Once again he whispers. "Have I ever told you, you look beautiful?" I shake my head and he gives a low chuckle. I struggle to contain a smile breaking out on my face. He takes my hand and scoots himself closer to me, then wraps himself around me. I snuggle closer to him and burry my face in his neck. I can still smell his AXE cologne he used to wear. I inhaled deeply and snuggled even closer to him. My feelings were growing deep for him and it was scaring me, but also thrilled me. I knew that this was more than just loving him like a brother. I wanted to be more than just friends. I wanted to be close to him. He looks at me longingly and presses his lips to mine. It was a soft, gentle kiss. One that i wished would last forever, but of course it didn't. Nothing lasts forever. Nothing.

Not my thing. Not at all....i prefer the bloody gore and all that good stuff.
