They told me I was beautiful.
"You could be a model."
"The boys will be all over you."
"You should never be ashamed of what you look like."
But of all things
They forgot to mention that beauty comes with a price,
One that is always beyond my budget.
Over 81 percent of women were the target of a sexually explicit comment atleast once in their life.
That's 81 percent too many.
The price of beauty
Is not being allowed out after dark.
It's your parents constantly telling you to change clothes,
Because your outfit draw too much attention
To your lady features that you can't control,
And the unwanted catcalls from boys,
And from men old enough to be your father.
75 percent of females have been followed by an unknown stranger in public.
That's 75 percent too many.
The price of beauty
Is having to deal with unwanted hands
On places strange hands don't belong.
It's the difficulty of trying to make a friend
That doesn't feel like you're competition,
And having to find a boyfriend,
Who won't let the jealousy of others looking at you,
Get the best of him.
About 62 percent of women have had their paths blocked purposefully by a male.
That's 62 percent too many.
The price of beauty
Is never having your own privacy
Because it's constantly being invaded
By those who are attracted to your image.
It's the feeling of only being seen,
And never heard,
And it's the ironic feeling of discomfort
In your own skin
Because you'd rather look different
Than have to constantly worry about sexually assault
Or rape.
Nearly 57 percent of women have reported being sexually assaulted by a stranger in public.
That's 57 percent too many.
The price of beauty is too much for us to pay.
