SCENE 1 "INTRO"

[FLASHBACK SEQUENCE]

A six-year old MAY ADAMS, with golden blonde flowing hair, walks to her first day of kindergarten holding her UNCLE TED'S hand.

MAY Do I have to go Uncle Ted?

May asked her uncle with a hint of fear in her voice.

Ted was a tall man with golden bronzed hair with ocean blue eyes just like May.

TED Yes May, you do. You'll meet new friends here.

MAY What if no one likes me?

May says looking down at her feet.

Ted suddenly stops and drops to his knees to look directly in May's face.

TED May, you're an Adams. Your dad traveled from place to place meeting new people while he was in the military. You can go into Black Grady Elementary to meet new friends, can you?

May looks into her Uncle's eyes and smiles.

MAY Okay, I'll do it for daddy.

Ted smiles at her

TED Good girl.

He stands straight up and takes MAY'S hand and walks toward the school.

CLASSROOM

[FLASHBACK SEQUENCE CONT'D]

BOOKS Hello, my name is Ms. Books, and I'll be your teacher for this year.

She says smiling down at May.

May looks away from BOOKS and cowers into her Uncle's back.

TED May's just a little shy.

Ted pushes her out from behind him.

TED CONT'D Go on, I'll be back by three o'clock to pick you up.

MAY Okay, I love you

She gives him a kiss on the check, and walks into the classroom with the other children

TED Can you watch May closely today?

BOOKS Of course, but Mr. Adams, your daughter will be...

Before Ms. Books could continue, Ted cuts her off.

TED I'm her uncle. Her mother died during birth and her father died in Afghanistan.

BOOKS Oh my.

TED It's okay. I moved in with my brother after his wife's death to help take care of May. We've moved constantly, but I feel it is best for May to live here in Evans.

Ted looks towards May and sees another little girl with red hair approaching her. He then smiles.

TED I'll be back at three to pick her up.

[TED EXITS]
