I woke up with drowsy eyes and sore muscles. Energy slowly seeped through my veins trying to heal my energy deprived body. A growl came from my stomach dragon as I tried to check my surroundings.
The room's walls were painted with a dull beige that had faded over the years and now looked like the walls were covered in unevenly spread dust. The ceiling was a dirty white colour with a bad paint job around the edges. Craning my head to the side, I could see that the room was square with no other furniture than the bed I was lying on. The small door leading out of the room was newer and had several locks running up the side for security.
My arms moved slowly and my brain screamed at me for attempting to sit upright. The bed groaned and hammers attacked the walls I had protecting my mind. Finally sitting, I placed my hands to my head and rubbed my temples.
The door shook and the locks clanged as I worked on keeping my brain inside my head. A moment after the horrendous noises stopped, Grim appeared before me. "How are you feeling?"
"Brilliant." Sarcasm dripped from my voice and received a deep chuckle from the reaper. "I love having my energy depleted by an annoying brat."
Grim rolled his eyes and wandered closer to me. "You know the drill. Give me your arm."
I rolled up a sleeve of my nightgown and offered my arm to Grim. He lightly moved my arm so he could see the contract mark he had left on me. A simple design on base of my wrist. Grim adjusted so his left hand was covering the pentagram.
Shooting pain pulled at my limbs and water gathered in my eyes. My body fell limp with my body focusing on regaining health and energy. Grim's right hand slinked around my waist and supported my ragdoll body.
"Need a break, Avi?" I focused on Grim's words as my runes and magic fought for control.
"N-no." Attempting to shake my head, I let my eyelids flutter closed.
"Don't faint on me now, I'm almo-" Footsteps echoed from beyond the padlocked door. "Not now for the love of Edite..." Grim's voice trailed off as he cursed to the god of magic.
"G-Grim...S-stop..." My words came out in a soft moan and Grim paid no attention to them as he listened for the owners of the footsteps. The runes on my face burnt like a gasoline fire though a forest. I clung to the pain to stop myself from collapsing unconscious.
An eternity seemed to pass before Grim released my arm. Sweat dotted my brow as I leaned on the warm figure beside me. A heavy breath was let out beside me.
"Avi... Your runes..." I heaved my eyes open to see what Grim was talking about. Red blocked the vision out of my left eye. My hands shook as I reached up to my face. When I removed my hands, they were covered with blood. "At least your runes already look like scars."
I furrowed my brows and glared. "You over healed me. I told you to stop when my magic tried to eliminate my runes."
A remorseful blush coloured Grim's cheeks as I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. "Where are you going?" Confusion and guilt shone bright in the reaper's eyes.
"Shower."
