"Haha,hey mute boy!"

Keep walking keep walking.

"Hey!Are you deaf too, ha what a pathetic wimp."

Keep walking keep walking.

The boy paid no attention to the sound of approaching footsteps, keeping his head low and his eyes forward.

"Hey,mute boy! What's the matter? Something bothering you? Wanna talk about it?" A bought of snickers sounded from behind him, though Jordan barely batted an eyelash.

Keep walking keep-

His shoulders tensed at the rough tap on his shoulder. He froze, arms stiffening at his side.

"Aw c'mon mute boy. Let's hear you talk."

Jordan's brown eyes widened slightly, and his body started to shake.

"Scared mute boy? C'mon, you heard me: talk mute boy talk."

The shaking increased as his breaths came in uneven and shallow intakes, though his mouth remained closed, lips pursed tightly together. A group of boys had joined in by now, each repeating the same thing.

"C'mon mute boy"

"Let'shear it!"

"Why don't you talk for us mute boy?" Their jeers surrounded him, closing in, suffocating him. His freckles stood out against his paleface, as his fists clenched with each word that flowed from the crowd's mouths. A rough shove caused him to stumble forward, his arms thrown out for balance. The laughter blurred together as he pressed his pale hands against his ears, shaking his head.

"Awwww what's the matter? Scared?"

The boy clenched his teeth, grinding them together as he continued to shake his head. Another shove sent him tumbling to the ground, as the jeers from the boys taunted him. Jordan slowly got to his feet, only to be kicked in the back of his shins.

The boy's breath hitched as his legs buckled, sending him ungracefully to the ground. His shoulder broke his fall, and he swallowed down a whimper, screwing his eyes shut. He wouldn't cry, he wouldn't. The leader of the tormentors swung his arm back as if to deliver another punch, but never got to land it.

"Get.Away.From.Him"

This, however, only encouraged more jeers and laughter directed at the boy who wouldn't speak.

"Aww has your guardian angel shown up to save you? Why don't you say thank you mute boy."

A soundless whimper escaped his lips in a breath of air, as he curled up in a ball, hands still placed against his ears. The laughter and torment was cut short however at the sound of a punch hitting home, and the yell that the victim let out. Jordan remained curled up in his fetal position, as cries and shouts rang out, and the yells of rage from the draconian teen.

Silent sobs racked his body as the fighting went on, as he mentally yelled and screamed at himself.

What is WRONG with me! Why can't I be NORMAL. Why cant I talk, why why wHY WHY. WHY AM I LIKE THIS. WHY CANT I. WHY.

In reality, he knew nothing was holding him back from opening his mouth, nothing was preventing himself from letting the flow of words out, nothing was keeping him chained in this prison.

Nothing,but himself.

The sounds of fighting gradually faded away, and he was dimly aware of Hiko kneeling beside him, and gently prying his hands away from his ears. Forcing brown eyes open, the boy looked up at a face creased with worry. Tears overflowed from his brown pools, each reflecting grief and hurt. Silent sobs caused his head to drop again, as his eyes shut tightly. Silence, before gentle hands pulled him into a hug, which the mute sank into, pale hands grasping at the hoodie the teen wore. Hiko comforted him silently, letting him cry.

"H-Hiko..?"Jordan spoke, a soft, grief ridden whisper broke the silence.

"Hm?"

"..I hate words."
