My heart started pounding out of my chest. I didn't know whether to greet Hakeem or act as if I didn't know him at all.
To my surprise Jason started smiling. "My nigga!" Him and Hakeem hugged. "What you doing here?"
"I heard you was home so I decided to stop by and see you. I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Hakeem said as he checked out our home.
"Oh your fine. Me and my wife was just chilling." Jason said. "I'm going to introduce you to her." Jason looked up the stairs and motioned for me to come down.
I went down and held out my hand for him to shake. "Nice meeting you, I'm Asia."
He smiled and shook my hand. "Nice meeting you, for the first time ever in life. I'm Hakeem."
"Asia, this my old friend from high school."
I rolled my eyes on the sly and put my hand on Jason's shoulder, "Babe, can we finish that important thing we were doing?"
"Yeah, just let me see what's up first." He told me.
I rushed upstairs and called Nina as fast as I could and when she answered I spoke so fast I was nearly out of breath.
"What? Calm down girl." Nina said.
"Hakeem came to my house."
"What? Why?" She asked.
"He's high school friends with Jason."
"Oh yeah, I knew that."
"You knew and you didn't tell me?"
"I'm sorry. I honestly had forgot. Hakeem didn't go to our school very long and he was much skinnier then."
"I'm going to kill you."
"Kill who?" Jason asked.
I hung up the phone. "Nobody. I was just playing around with Nina."
"I don't know why you hang out with that girl. She ain't nothing, but a hoe living off of her husband."
"Me too, besides the hoe part." I said lowly.
"Your nothing like her. You stay home by choice. You spent six years trying to get your nursing degree. Any day you can say your going to go to work and I'll except that. I want you to be happy. Nina doesn't have any choices. She came from nothing and hasn't tried to make anything of herself. She's just satisfied with shopping and pampering herself while her husband is away."
Ninas husband was a military general, which kept him away from home a lot. Most of the time while he was away, Nina went shopping and slept with other men to fill her loneliness. Her husband said that working a lot was enjoyable for him, but Nina felt like he didn't want to be around her. She would always tell me that she felt he wanted to leave her, but a divorce would not be a good look for him. He wanted kids and she couldn't supply them because of an STD she caught in high school, but she could never tell him.
Jason walked over to me and wrapped his arms me, "Now can we get back to what we were about to get started?"
"Of course."
. . .
The next morning, I woke up and Jason was no where to be found. I walked out of the bathroom and noticed a piece of paper on the nightstand. I picked up and smiled at the paper with words in the middle surrounded by little hearts that I knew Jason had drew.
"Sorry I had to leave. I had to be back before my sergeant knew I even left and I didn't want to wake you while you were sleeping so beautifully. I love you." - Jason
"I love you too." I said as if he could hear.
My phone rung and heart immediately started beating fast. Hakeem was calling. I was afraid to answer so I just let the phone ring. It eventually stopped ringing and I got a notification that I had nine missed calls. I went through them and four were from Nina.
I immediately tried to call her, but I got no answer. It was unlikely for her to blow up my phone and not answer when I called because we promised each other that we would always answer each others calls. I tried calling twice again and she still didn't answer. My anxiety level started to rise.
Every since we were little kids, Nina would have severe asthma attacks .
I put on a PINK jogging suit and some UGG boots then I ran down the street to her house. I ran up her front steps and banged on her front door till it swung open and I was pulled in. Nina shut the door and locked it, then she turned to me and looked at me frantically. She was covered in blood and she was holding a gun. "I had too." She cried.
"Nina, what did you do?" I asked her.
"I killed him." She responded then she looked past me.
I slowly turned around and saw Hakeem lying face down in a pool of blood. "Nina, what the hell is going on?"
"It was self defense. He tried to hurt me."
"Well call the police." I said then I pulled out my phone and tried to dial 911, but she snatched it.
"No. We can't tell the police what we did." She said.
"We?" I asked her.
"If you call the cops, we both go to jail." She said with a evil look on her.
