Introduction- The Flashback

''Sierra you were amazing tonight!'' my mom told me with excitement. ''Really mommy I did that good?'' I asked with happiness seeping through my voice. ''Of course honey, I can't wait to see you dance again'' my father told me looking at me in the back seat.

''HEROLD LOOK OUT!'' my mother yelled pointing at a car headed straight for us. *metal colliding, smashing and people screaming* ''Mommy, Daddy please wake up. Please wake up Mommy. Please Daddy'' I managed to say through heavy tears. ''Mommy and Daddy aren't going to wake up kid, I'm sorry but they're gone'' the paramedic said. ''You're the only one that survived the crash; do you know anyone you can call to take care of you?'' He asked as he loaded the bodies into the ambulance. ''No I don't think there is'' I told him wiping away the tears. ''Well, you'll have to go to the orphanage. But don't worry, you'll be well taken care of until your adoption.'' the other paramedic said to me.

From that moment on I'd be known as an orphan; I couldn't believe I'd never be able to come home and see my mothers smiling face or have my father give me away on my wedding day. Before an officer lead me into his car and took me to the orphanage, I walked over to my parents bodies and said my final goodbyes ''Goodbye Mom and Dad, I love you both!'' With that I walked over to the car, tears stinging my eyes and flowing down my face. I stepped inside awaiting my new life.

Chapter One

Sierra Anne Richards. That was me. I was 7 when my parents died in horrible car crash driving home from my ballet recital. The night of the crash I went to an orphanage where, later on I was adopted by what looked like a nice family, but the parents turned out to have a serious drinking problem. I did my best to stay away from them. I couldn't stand living with them, they were horrible people to say the least!

I ran away when I turned 16. I am now 17 and starting my junior year at River Valley High. I had just stepped onto the school grounds when I first met Aurore and Charity my new and first ever friends since the accident. They've lived in River Valley longer than I have. Ever since I ran away I've been traveling around looking for apartments I could rent and schools I could attend. Finally I found a small but nice apartment I could afford with my new jobs as a waitress and a dance instructor at the local community centre. River Valley High was the only school I could find with a good enough education plan.

''Well we better hurry to class or we'll be late on the first day. That's not good.'' Aurore said to us as we hurried across the campus. We ran as fast as our feet would take us. ''C'mon Sierra hurry up!''Charity yelled at me, Aurore and Charity were way ahead of me, I ran as fast as I could until I ran into a few guys running in the opposite direction. The three guys and I ran head first into each other! ''Ouch!'' they all screamed. Two of the guys shook it off and started running to class like nothing happened. I sat on my knees and picked up all my text books and notebooks, the other guy didn't say anything, he just helped pick up my stuff.

''Uh sorry, let me help you'' he said while smiling. ''Oh thanks'' I said looking away. Without noticing I reached for a book that he was about to pick up and and that's when our hands touched. Sparks instantly flew through me like fireworks. ''Sorry'' I said taking my hand back. ''I can't do this. I can't. Boys aren't... They aren't worth it; they don't want some poor girl, they don't want an orphan to take to dances or parties. They want a beautiful cheerleader or some popular girl they wouldn't be embarassed with at semi formal. Don't waste your time on them. You only need good grades and then you can get a collage scholarship and then care about boys after you get a job somewhere far away from here.'' I told myself.

''Maybe I'll see you around sometime?'' he asked hurrying across the yard. ''Ugh just what I need, to be late on the first day'' I sighed. Quickly making my way to social studies I opened the door ready to apologize for being late, ''Sorry I'm late Mr. Goodine'' I told the teacher. ''No excuses Miss Richards, but since it's your first day attending this school I'll let you off with a warning'' Mr. Goodine told me without turning to glance at me.

I took a seat next to some girl I didn't know and took out my books. Finally after an hour the bell rang to dismiss the class and everyone jumped out of their seats and headed for the door in a rush. I slowly walked to my locker trying not to hit people in the hallway. Waiting by my locker were Aurore and Charity with smiles on their faces.

''So... We saw you ran into Jacob Smith and his crew?'' Charity asked while I put my books in the locker and got out my backpack. ''Oh that's who that was? I didn't really notice anything special about them'' I told Charity, not seeming to care. ''Uh like duh! He's the most popular guy in the whole school!'' Aurore exclaimed. ''Oh'' I said. ''Oh? All you have to say is oh? If I were you I would be so happy that he even looked at me!'' Charity squealed. ''C'mon guys, aren't you exagerating a little bit? I mean he's just a guy. The world is fiilled with 'em.'' I told them starting to walk down to my next class.

My friends looked astonished! ''Sierra, Jacob is a hot, popular jock. And you're a girl. Girls like hot, popular jocks like him. Do I have to do the math for you?'' Charity tried to explain beofre I interupted her by saying ''Yeah, I know. I've seen this stuff in movies but this is real life, understand? Me and him had one conversation. That's it, nothing more. It probably won't happen again anyway. I'm not worried over boys, call me crazy all you want but I think they're just a waste of time right now.'' That was the end of our Jacob conversation before I walked off.
