today is first day of first grade. i do not know anyone. new school and new place. i want new friends.

As I walked into the classroom, my eyes darted from person to person. I smoothed out my sunflower dress and approached a group of girls who were colouring pictures.
"Hello!" I chirped, watching them colour.
"Um, are you wearing a flower dress?" one girl asked.
"Yes I am. Do you like it? My mommy picked it out just for today!"
"This is first grade. We don't wear flower dresses in first grade," she snapped.
"Okay... Can I colour with you?" I asked.
"No. Go hang out with her. She's ugly just like you," she responded, pointing to a lonely girl sitting in the corner. She had beautiful eyes that sparkled like emeralds and long blonde hair.
"Hi," I chirped, sitting down next to her, careful not to ruffle my dress.
"Hello," she replied, smiling. "I like your dress."
