RECAP

Becca looked like someone I could make best friends with easily. And I really wanted to, considering I probably wasn’t going to make many girlfriends with people in my dorm. But in the back of my mind I kept having a nipping thought that I couldn’t get rid of. This was the bitch that got the good room assignment.

But as soon as I thought it, I got angered with myself for thinking it. It’s not her fault my mom was stupid enough to name me Stephen. “Well it’s good to know I’m not the only new one here!” Feigning surprise when she said she was also new.

Becca smiled brightly. “Want to come sit with me?”

“Sure!” I followed her over to whatever table her little heart desired. “So what grade are you in?” I asked curiously.

     “Sophomore! How about you?”

     I sighed, “Junior.”

I could see her heart sink a little. “But it’s okay, there are actually some classes that juniors and sophomores have to together, I think!”

She smiled hopefully and scooted into a booth. She patted the small area next to her, signaling for me to sit. She was sitting in the booth that I had noticed earlier. With the five girls. Did she know these girls?

Calmly, I sat down. I smiled at the three girls sitting across from me. The ones that looked slightly younger than the two girls me and Becca sat with.

None of them smiled back. “Becca, who’s this?”

She blushed. “Oh sorry. This is Love Desroches. She’s new here too and I just met her up at the counter.”

“Oh.” One of the girl’s said. She had black hair cut just below her chin. It was very layed and she had side bangs, passing right above her eye. She had a very prominent birth mark right above her lip. In a sense, she was very pretty. But looks meant nothing.

     I glowered at her.

“Leesha, be nice. I’m sure it’s tough to be new.” I looked to my right, passed Becca to see who was speaking. It was the blonde girl who sat closest to the wall. Her green eyes stuck out like a sore thumb on her face against her pale skin. She had her hair down and curled. Her face was heart shaped and looked like she could be in a Miss America Pageant with her dazzling white-toothed smile. She smirked. “Not all scholarship girls are nerds.”

I sat there, shocked. How did she know I was a scholarship student?

“Well anyways,” She continued, unfazed by my shocked expression. “I didn’t see you moving your stuff in this morning. Did you get lost or something?” Her and her posse giggled at the stupid joke.

     Becca glanced at me, apologetic.

“Well um-” I started to sweat. Only then did I even realize that I hadn’t even ordered anything from the counter. I was too excited to be making a friend, that I had forgotten completely. My stomach growled. If only I had just came in here a second later, I wouldn’t be here right now, staring at my sweaty palms, unsure of what to say. “They didn’t give me my room assignment just yet. Mrs. Senile um…. Lost it.” I finished, hoping they wouldn’t see through my little white lie.

“Mrs. Senile? Only the guys ever call her that. Is there some guy you’ve been talking to?” She asked, faking a smoochie face.

I was about to blush and turn away when I got a sudden thrill of adrenaline. I could stand up to these girls. I sat up straighter and rolled my eyes. “Yeah, like I’m even going to tell you guys anything. I don’t even know your names. Come on girls, step up your game.”

The blonde one stared back at me in shock. Apparently, she wasn’t expecting a comeback like that from me. But the look quickly passed. “Well, I’m Amber.” She said, drawing out each of her words like she was talking to a two year old. “This.” She put her hand on the girl’s shoulder sitting next to her. “Is Victoria.” As Amber introduced Victoria, I noticed she was the only one at the table with red hair. At my old school, kids with red hair were always picked on.

Amber continued with the introductions like she was talking to a two year old. Next going to Leesha, the girl with the black hair. Then She moved onto Kiki, a blonde girl next to Leesha. Then finally, Ali, another blonde girl who was squished in the corner. To my surprise, she actually smiled and waved at me. I gave her a shy smile back.

Feeling like an outsider, I decided it was time for me to go. I got up and grabbed my bag off the floor.

“Where are you going?” Becca asked.

“Um, I kind of wanted to go explore the campus some more.”

“I’ll come with you!” Becca trilled, dumping the rest of her coffee in the trash. She turned to the five girls left in the booth. “I’ll see you guys back at the dorm!”

We were about twenty feet away from the door, when it opened, revealing three extremely hot guys. Two of which, coincidentally, I knew. “Hey Blake!” I called out.

He turned to looked at me, surprised. “Oh. Hey New Girl.” He winked at me. The guy behind him was the guy I accidentally almost ran into earlier when I was leaving my dorm room.

The third guy had beach blond hair, and brown eyes. Nothing special stood out to me, but he was still slamming hot.

The three of them walked by us as Becca whispered in my ear, “You know that guy?” She asked me.

“Yeah,” I whispered back. “I tell you about it when we get outside.” I decided I would tell her where I was staying the night. She didn’t seem like a gossipy girl and it was only for one night, so it wasn’t even that big of an issue. I figured I would also tell her about our almost-kiss earlier.

Before finally heading out the door, I looked behind me to catch a last glimpse of Blake and saw him standing outside the booth, with a blonde girl sucking on his face. He even seemed to be enjoying it. I gasped.

     Becca looked at me confused.

And then, when the blonde girl pulled back I realized; she was Amber. At the same moment I realized how much of a player Blake really was.

I quickly stormed out of the empty Starbucks with Becca at my heels. I cursed at myself for being so stupid. Blake was just a player, he obviously didn’t think I was gorgeous and he didn’t want to kiss me. “Ugh! I’m so stupid!” I yelled into the cold night air.

Becca was by my side within seconds. “What’s wrong, Love?” She asked me, innocence filling her deep brown eyes.

Slowly letting the anger release from my body before spilling all my guts to Becca, I glanced around the bit of campus spread out in front of me. There were gorgeous, luscious green trees on my left and right surrounding the large pathway, wide enough to fit about fifteen football players, shoulder to shoulder. The path went straight, then made a right angle leading to the small outdoor moving screening, but also when straight, leading back to the dorms.

I looked at Becca and she smiled, unsure, at me. “Is everything ok?” She asked.

“Yeah. I’m fine.” I nodded. “Hey, can I check our your dorm?”

She smiled happily. “Sure!” She grabbed my hand and skipped along the path.
