We arrived to the riding stables and my coach was waiting outside on the porch with a coffee mug in her hands.
My coach, Julie showed me which horse she was and I brushed her and cleaned her hooves. Unlike a lot of horses I've seen, her hooves were in perfect health and she seemed to be desperate for an owner to care for her. I say this because when ever a horse would walk behind her or near her when she was in the outdoor grooming area, located right in front of the paddock, she would put her ears completely back and would attempt to kick them.I brought her to the riding ring ready to ride her. Julie puts her left foot in the stirrup and pushes herself over the saddle. She walks around the ring, and then she trots. As Julie and the horse cross their diagonal, Julie tells me somethings about this horse.
"She's not completely trained yet. You would have to train her to canter and gallop. You'll also have to train her barrel racing, dash for cash, pole bending, keyhole, the flag, just all the western games in general", Julie said running out of breath from kicking and rising. She got off and asked me if I wanted to try to ride her and I replied "Yes, I do want to try riding her." I pulled myself over onto the saddle. Listening to my coach has she tells me what to do, I start trotting. One round around the ring and I ran out of breath. I had to kick and then rise when she was trotting, but she was over weight and I believe she needs a chance to improve.
"How do you like her?", Julie asked anxiously.
"I love her", I replied with a huge smile on my face.
"Yay!!!!!!!", Julie screamed. "Her registered name is BB Red Chip Dolly but she's been called Lexy for 6 years now, but now that she's your horse you can change her name if you want. What are you going to call her?
"I think I'll stick with Lexy", I replied happily.
I got off of Lexy and started walking away from her. Lexy followed me, she has amazingly good ground manners.
I brought her to the stables and untacked her, as soon as I was finished I put her back into the the paddock with the other horses.
