Jenny O’Toole struggled to see the road in front of her, the wipers on her car thrashing from side to side as the rain poured down from the night sky.

The radio was playing Sweet Home Alabama, one of Jenny’s favourite songs, but this time she didn’t sing along to it as she leant forward, trying to see the road ahead. She had been driving for the last hour; the house which she headed to was out in the countryside and there were no street lights which made it even harder for Jenny.  She’d briefly thought about pulling over but decided that she wanted to get to her destination as soon as she could.

Eventually, the large gates to the house appeared in the darkness and she pulled up at the side of a small lamp illuminating the intercom.

Jenny wound down her window, and leant over to push the button. She could just hear the dialling tone and then a few seconds later a voice came over the intercom.

 “Hello?” said the male voice.

 “It’s Jenny.”

 “Who?” came the reply.

“It’s Jenny.” She said a bit louder.

 “Oh sorry, come on in.”

The gates started to open, and she twisted the window back up, her arm soaking from the rain that still lashed at the car.

As she drove up the dark drive, she was feeling a little nervous and excited at the same time. It was the first time she had done anything like this and with such a well known figure too. The worst part was keeping it from her husband. The lying was hard. She had told him last night that she was working late tonight and not to expect her home at the normal time.

The large house loomed from the darkness; a porch supported by four round ivory pillars was lit by two baroque lamps on either side, and the rest of the house was in shadows apart from one window on the lower level.

She pulled up beside another car, and switched off the engine. Taking up her handbag from the passenger foot well, she took out her perfume and sprayed her neck a few times and popped it back in her bag. Checking she had everything she needed, she opened the car door and stepped out into the rain.

Jenny paused and let the dark rain fall down on her, it made her feel alive. She stood there until it had soaked through to her skin, feeling goose bumps rise up on her arms. Jenny looked up and closed her eyes, letting the rain fall on her face, it felt good and for a moment she forgot what she was there for.

She was snapped out of her bliss, as she heard the front door open. The tall and very handsome man stood in the doorway. She had met him a few times but always in public. The top button of his shirt was undone and one corner was untucked from his trousers, a contrast to his normally immaculate presentation. He smiled at her, his teeth the same colour as the brilliant white shirt he wore.

“Are you coming in, or are you just going to stand out in the rain all night?”

“Ooh I am sorry, I was lost in thought there for a second.”

Jenny pushed her car door shut and slung her handbag over her shoulder, quickly dashing inside.

“You’re soaked, would you like me to get you a gown?”

“Actually I’m fine, I am quite comfy.” She sheepishly replied.

 “I see.”

He gestured her into a large room; four big leather couches surrounded a coffee table in the middle of the room, an open fire blazed away making the room look very cosy. It was dimly lit and Jenny thought to herself how romantic it was.
