I'm Ashton and this the day my heart turned cold.
It was 5:38 and I finally heard my phone ringing but I didn't get it enough. I had 5 missed calls from my sister and 3 from my brother. I had more than 5 text messages from my uncle. After getting a horrible feeling in my stomach, I decided to call my brother back. I said "Hello..." I couldn't hear anything but sniffing. I said it again. He said "A? Are you okay?" I said "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" He said "Dad got caught in the field. They say he at Kindred..." I said "WHAT?"
My brother got quiet and said "He gone.." I said "What? Quit playing." I got out my bed and ran across the hall to my dads room. I turned on the light to see that his bed was empty. I broke down immediately. I felt blood rushing to my head. I dropped the phone and punched the glass mirror in the hall. I couldn't see. I couldn't believe it. My dad? Gone?
I couldn't believe it!! "That's my fucking dad! My flesh and blood. My everything." I decided to go to his room and get in his bed. I cried myself to sleep. I couldn't phantom the fact that my father was gone. Unbelievable.
I woke up to the sound of my named being called. It was my uncle, my sister and my older brother. I heard my sister say "ASHTON!!!, y'all she up here!" I heard my sister getting close and then I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. My brother grabbed me and held me in his arms. "Its gonna be okay, stay strong, dad always said you was his little soldier. Act like it." He said in a harsh tone. Hes always been insensitive.
My sister pulled him away from me and hugged me so tightly. She cried and broke down causing me to the do the same. My brother joined us making it a group hug. He didn't shed a tear. I heard my uncle on the phone with somebody. He said "Ma! Please! Stop crying..." It was my grandmother. I couldn't even dare to imagine the pain that she felt.
Afterwards we all decided to stop being sad and celebrate my fathers life the correct way. I was tired of crying. I promise you that was the last day I cried. I didn't think I could love anybody else the same. He was my father, my first love, my bestfriend , my protector. I was his favorite. His little girl.
