"Ms. Miller, time for breakfast" a voice says through my door. It doesn't seem to bother me that much because I'm already awake and aware of what's happening but for some reason I can't get the strength to move. A sigh escapes my mouth before closing my eyes and finally moving. "coming William, I just need a little time ok"? " yes Ms. Miller, we'll be waiting for you downstairs when you're ready". For many years I prepared for this day, thinking I could make it but now that it's here I wish I was dead. "You can do this alannah, it's just one day you can make it" the voice in my head keeps repeating over and over. Today is my 18th birthday and like most teenagers i should be happy that I'm finally grown up but the thing is I'm not. I might be happy if my parents were here but they're not. I wish they could see me grown up and hear them say that any guy would be all over me because I'm so gorgeous (even though I'm not) on my special day but I can't. It's ok though I've put up with it for five years now.

"Don't you look so radiant today Ms. Miller. You look just like your mother, so beautiful." " thank you Gene" I look down with a sad smile and smooth out my teal blue silk dress with gentle small pink ruffles at the bottom. She smiles bigger than me as she sits on the bed gesturing for me to come and sit next to her. I sit next to her as she gently brushes my hair, "I know you wish they could be here with you today to celebrate with you. Just know I'm here and so is the rest of the staff if you need someone to talk to. " I smile a lil more and softly feels the braid gene made with my hair, "thank you gene, that means a lot to me. I think I'm going to go out in the town today,I haven't been outside in a while. It might be nice to get some fresh air today". She nods and gently gets up before heading out my bedroom door.
